Job Summary:

The Standard seeks a talented actuary to join the Voluntary Benefits Pricing Strategy team. In this role, you will focus on custom pricing and analysis for Elective Voluntary Benefits (EVB) products (including Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Disability and Life Products). You will have the opportunity to work with senior actuaries and leaders across all actuarial teams as well as underwriting, sales, and finance.

The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset and collaborative approach to working with their team. We value a team approach to thought leadership and are looking for someone ready to play both a support role and driver of our core functions:

  • Large case custom pricing strategy, including review of quoting performance metrics.
  • Provide thought leadership and support strategic initiatives by leading projects that improve pricing/underwriting accuracy, competitiveness and efficiency.
  • Support business lines product development and pricing needs. Helping develop approaches to handle voluntary benefit strategies.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure pricing strategy success including sales, underwriting, compliance, and finance.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying ways to enhance and streamline our processes.

Note: This role may be filled at the levels noted below based upon applicable experience and career path:

  • Actuary: 5+ years of experience sufficient to have gained a seasoned actuarial business perspective required. ASA or equivalent required. (The compensation range for this role is: $131,750 - $192,500.)
  • Actuarial Associate III - 3+ years of experience sufficient to have gained a seasoned actuarial business perspective required. ASA or equivalent required. (The compensation range for this role is: $94,500.00 - $138,500.00)

Skills and Background You'll Need:

Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field. (MBA or advanced degree a plus)

Certifications:

  • ASA required

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in an actuarial role (required)
  • Experience with creation of pricing strategy for large product lines in Supplemental Health, Disability, or Life products.(highly preferred)
  • Advanced skills in Excel & VBA (required)
  • Experience with SQL, Power BI (dashboard creation), & GGY Axis are a plus.
  • Prior experience working with underwriting and sales teams preferred.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.

Salary Range:

$131,750.00 - $192,500.00
