Title: Water Resource Director – Public Agency


Compensation: $145,000 – $155,000/year (based on experience)


Schedule:

Full-time, Monday – Friday

Some evening or weekend meetings may be required


Location: Remote / Regional


Position Summary:

A public agency is seeking a Water Resource Director to oversee strategic planning, management, and sustainability of water resources. This leadership role directs operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and advances initiatives that secure long-term water quality, availability, and conservation. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with technical expertise, proven management skills, and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning, development, and operation of surface water resources, treatment facilities, and distribution systems
  • Develop and implement long-term water supply and conservation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  • Oversee departmental budgets, capital improvement planning, and financial performance
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and technical staff
  • Conduct quality control and review of hydraulic and hydrologic models, floodplain mapping, and watershed planning
  • Engage stakeholders and regional partners to advance water resource management initiatives


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) required or ability to obtain within six months
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in water resources management or related field
  • Proven leadership, project management, and client/stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities


Compensation & Incentives:
