Job Description: Lead and mentor a data engineering team while remaining hands-on, helping modernize the data platform, establish engineering standards, and translate business needs into scalable data solutions.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a small technical team of data professionals.
  • Remain hands-on by taking technical stories during each sprint.
  • Own the end-to-end data lifecycle from extraction through reporting.
  • Build and manage ETL/ELT pipelines across APIs, files, SaaS, and on-prem systems.
  • Integrate ERP and business application data across sales, finance, inventory, manufacturing, supply chain, and operations.
  • Develop scalable data models and reusable architecture.
  • Manage and improve Snowflake, Matillion, dbt, Power BI, and Python-based solutions.
  • Help modernize legacy integrations and potentially transition portions of the platform to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Establish standards for architecture, development, testing, CI/CD, documentation, monitoring, and deployment.
  • Conduct code reviews and troubleshoot data pipeline issues.
  • Manage and refine the technical backlog and help teams deliver through MVPs and incremental releases.
  • Partner closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, product owners, and manufacturing technology teams.
  • Convert manual business processes into scalable, automated data solutions.
  • Transfer knowledge and best practices to the internal team throughout the engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, analytics engineering, or data integration.
  • Strong end-to-end data experience across extraction, ingestion, transformation, modeling, and reporting.
  • Advanced SQL and cloud data warehouse experience.
  • Strong Snowflake experience or highly comparable cloud data warehouse experience.
  • Hands-on ETL/ELT and scalable data pipeline development experience.
  • Strong dbt experience.
  • Power BI experience.
  • Experience integrating data from APIs, files, SaaS applications, and/or on-prem systems.
  • ERP integration experience; Sage X3 is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, distribution, or similar operational data.
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical employees while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with nontechnical business users.
  • Experience establishing technical standards, documentation, code review, testing, and development best practices.
  • Agile/product delivery experience, including managing technical debt and breaking large initiatives into achievable increments.
  • Stable employment history or credible explanations for career transitions.
  • Ability to work remotely while supporting East Coast hours and traveling to the Massachusetts office approximately once per month.
