What is remote management consulting?

Remote management consulting involves providing expert advice to organizations on business strategy, operations, and management practices, all delivered virtually rather than in-person. Consultants work with clients through online meetings, digital collaboration tools, and remote project management platforms. This approach allows companies to access global expertise, reduce travel costs, and maintain flexibility, while still benefiting from tailored solutions to their business challenges.

What are remote management consulting jobs?

In remote management consulting positions, your job is to work from home to recommend strategies for your client's business. As part of this, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with the company's employees, help evaluate the company's performance, look for ways to improve their business, and otherwise serve as a consultant on any topic with which they need help. Many remote management consultants only consult on particular topics. For example, you may provide advice on information management, finances, or employee management and motivation techniques. Remote management consultants must also keep up with new developments in their industry, maintain relationships with previous clients, and participate in meetings with company executives.

How do remote management consultants typically collaborate with clients and team members across different time zones?

Remote management consultants often work with both clients and colleagues who are located around the world. To ensure effective collaboration, they use digital communication tools such as video conferencing, project management software, and shared document platforms. Flexibility with scheduling is important, as meetings may need to be held outside of standard business hours to accommodate different time zones. Clear communication, proactive updates, and well-defined project milestones help keep everyone aligned and projects on track despite geographic distances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote management consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Management Consultant, you need strong analytical abilities, business acumen, and a background in management or consulting, often supported by a relevant degree or MBA. Proficiency with virtual collaboration tools, project management software like Asana or Trello, and data analysis platforms such as Excel or Tableau is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for building client relationships and managing projects remotely. These skills enable consultants to deliver impactful solutions, maintain client trust, and ensure effective outcomes in a virtual environment.

Job description

At WestLand Engineering and Environmental Services, a Trinity Consultants team, we are driven by purpose, innovation, and a shared commitment to the work that we do. As part of Trinity Consultants' Water and Ecology division, we tackle complex environmental challenges, blending expertise in environmental consulting, wetlands, cultural resources, GIS, landscape architecture, and engineering.

WestLand empowers our teams to develop their unique skills while fostering career growth within a company that is large enough to offer diverse opportunities yet agile enough to value individual contributions. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do-our professionals work together on meaningful and impactful projects, delivering solutions that help clients navigate regulatory complexities and see positive project outcomes. Make a difference with us at WestLand!

WestLand is adding a Principal Consultant to our Tucson team! The Principal Consultant provides expert-level regulatory, compliance, and technical support across disciplines. This role manages complex client projects, contributes to risk reduction strategies, and ensures project success through sound project management practices and client relationship skills. Our engineering team focuses on Municipal, Mining, and Water/Wastewater projects across Arizona. Additionally, this position will play a significant role in helping develop and mentor newer engineers and other technical professionals. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to further build our market share by fostering relationships with current and future clients.

What will I be doing?

  • Managing and mentoring Project Managers, Professional Engineers (PE's), Engineers in Training (EIT's), design drafters and other technical staff.
  • Creating and reviewing written proposals and professional services fees.
  • Writing, managing, and providing quality control reviews of technical engineering reports.
  • Developing, managing, and providing quality control reviews of water and wastewater design projects. This includes water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pumps stations, lift stations, piping and conveyance systems and other water/wastewater system components.
  • Overseeing and providing quality control reviews of hydraulic models and master plans.
  • Managing and coordinating deliverables from subcontractors, vendors, and partner consultants.
  • Facilitating and/or coordinating communication and the delivery of information between WestLand, our subcontractors, and our vendors with our clients.
  • Building relationships with current and future clients and vendors.
  • Managing projects with multiple levels of staffing, vendors, and subconsultants where required as well as oversite of more junior staff management of simple projects.
  • Managing overall project delivery and risk mitigation with project managers from simple projects to senior project managers with complicated projects.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • You will have a bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline or in a related field.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates that are registered (or have the ability to register) as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a project manager in an engineering environment with a focus on Water and Wastewater systems is required.
  • Expertise in Federal and Local water/wastewater regulations and design standards.

The wage range for this position is $165,000 - $191,000 annually.

What does WestLand offer you?

  • Comprehensive benefits package: 9 paid holidays, healthcare benefits, PTO, and 401k matching for full-time employees. Flexible work schedules and remote/hybrid possibilities for most roles.
  • Multidisciplinary environment: Unique, creative, and challenging projects where you can develop your vision of clientele and work with industry leaders daily.
  • Success-oriented environment: Two-way mentorship, financial incentives to publish work, tuition reimbursement, and a career-path structure to help you reach the next steps in your career.
  • Collaborative work environment: Clear and frequent communication, shared information and ideas across teams, and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

WestLand is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or gender expression, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
