Job description

As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn't changed - we're here to stop breaches, and we've redefined modern security with the world's most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We're also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We're always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

As an Engineering Manager in CrowdStrike's Production Systems team, you will lead a group of gifted object storage engineers responsible for building, monitoring and maintaining our complex multi-cloud (on premise & public) distributed systems infrastructure with a focus on a rapidly growing third party object store. The Engineering Manager will play a key role in shaping the architecture and implementation of a stable, scalable and flexible production environment for a growing hyperscaler. You will be responsible for the workload management, well being, and professional growth of the engineers on your team. You'll help foster an open and collaborative environment while enhancing the support systems utilized to enable your team's success.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with a hybrid cloud 24x7 system in a critical production environment. You'll spearhead the design, development and implementation of a custom S3-compatible object store solution that spans across thousands of physical Linux servers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful solution integration while providing mentorship and guidance to engineers on your team. In addition to leading complex technical projects, you will be challenged to drive improvements to the processes, systems and tooling being utilized to forecast hardware usage.

If you are interested in building and leading a high-performing team tasked with solving new and interesting challenges, this is the job for you!

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of systems engineers, fostering collaboration across time zones while setting the benchmark for operational excellence.

  • Drive engineering excellence through implementation of industry-leading operational practices and comprehensive system reliability standards.

  • Work with internal peers and business partners to analyze requirements and craft elegant, robust, and reliable solutions to solve complex technical problems.

  • Own the technical strategy for data durability, availability, and performance across petabyte-scale storage systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers and leadership to establish and share best practices while elevating the team's technical expertise through continuous learning and knowledge transfer of emerging technologies and methodologies.

  • Spearhead technical teams and manage multiple concurrent projects, maintaining oversight from strategic vision to implementation details while navigating complex inter-team dependencies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Monitor and optimize storage costs while maintaining performance and reliability SLAs, including analysis and forecasting of both organic and surge-based growth within the operating environment.

  • Champion and advocate for the team while collaborating on cross-functional initiatives spanning from executive levels to peer workgroups across the organization.

What You'll Need:

  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident (clearance is not required).

  • MS in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years of experience in a production role as an engineer or technical lead with at least 5 years of experience in a hands-on people-manager role.

  • Strong cross-group collaboration and interpersonal communication skills honed by working across a variety of roles including engineering, product/project management, finance and/or executive leadership.

  • An energetic self-starter with the ability to take ownership and be accountable for deliverables.

  • Experience working within a large-scale distributed production environment and deploying/troubleshooting applications across functional teams.

  • Exceptional design and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated passion for engineering excellence, quality, security and performance. Adept at understanding and curious about new technologies, systems, and tools.

  • A demonstrated track record leading remote teams and hiring, onboarding, mentoring and developing high-performing technical engineers.

  • Experience leading teams working with Linux (Ubuntu, FreeBSD, CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux), OpenStack, VMware, and/or storage area networks.

  • Familiarity with block and object storage systems, including distributed cloud solutions (S3, Azure Blob, GCS), storage protocols, and on-premises storage architectures.

  • A knack for nailing down details and the ability to empower best practices and drive change throughout an organization.

Bonus Points:

  • Exposure to/experience at a cybersecurity, SaaS, or high-growth technology company.

  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing and/or managing block-level and object-based storage solutions at large scale (100+ PB).

  • Familiarity operating in FedRAMP or other regulated environments.
