What is a remote LPC?

A Remote LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) job involves providing mental health counseling services through teletherapy or online platforms. Remote LPCs assess, diagnose, and treat clients using video calls, phone sessions, or messaging services. This role allows counselors to work from home while still offering support for clients dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, or trauma. It requires a state-issued LPC license and compliance with telehealth regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote LPC?

To excel as a Remote LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), you need a master's degree in counseling or a related field, state licensure, and a solid grasp of evidence-based counseling techniques. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and HIPAA compliance is essential for delivering virtual mental health services. Strong communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are important soft skills, as is the ability to build rapport remotely. These skills ensure effective support for clients while maintaining professional standards and managing the unique challenges of remote therapy.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote LPCs and how can they be managed?

Remote LPCs often encounter challenges such as maintaining client engagement through virtual sessions, ensuring confidentiality in remote environments, and managing potential technology issues. To address these challenges, it’s important to establish clear boundaries and protocols with clients, utilize secure and reliable telehealth platforms, and remain flexible in your approach. Many employers also provide training and resources to support remote counseling best practices. Proactively communicating with your team and seeking regular peer consultation can further enhance the quality of care and create a supportive professional environment.

Position Overview

Brightside Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to join our remote telehealth team. This full-time role offers the unique opportunity to provide mental health care through an innovative, evidence-based approach that leverages technology to enhance patient outcomes. You will play a crucial role in delivering quality mental health services, utilizing tools and methodologies designed to reach and support diverse client needs.

About the Organization

Brightside Health is a pioneer in the telehealth sector, focused on delivering high-quality mental health care that integrates scientific evidence with a patient-centered approach. Our mission is to provide accessible, effective mental health services that are culturally responsive and tailored to the individual needs of our members. We employ a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework, complemented by additional supportive resources such as self-guided video lessons and practice exercises, ensuring comprehensive care delivery.

Work Environment

This position is 100% remote, enabling you to work flexible hours from anywhere, ideal for maintaining a work-life balance. Our virtual working environment fosters collaboration and support through regular communication with colleagues and leadership. You will be equipped with state-of-the-art tools, including an electronic medical record (EMR) system that is integrated with treatment software to aid in documentation and care coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide weekly, evidence-based telehealth sessions to adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological challenges, establishing a supportive and therapeutic relationship.

  • Utilize specialized treatment methodologies, such as the Unified Protocol, to create and implement personalized care plans, adjusting them based on regular symptom self-assessments and client feedback.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Brightside’s psychiatric providers and fellow counselors, to ensure comprehensive treatment strategies are effectively administered.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using our user-friendly counselor portal, facilitating streamlined communication with all members of the healthcare team.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development through weekly consultation sessions and monthly continuing education (CEU) opportunities provided by the organization.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on adult clients dealing with various emotional disorders, including anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflicts. The telehealth platform allows you to reach clients who may otherwise have limited access to mental health services, thereby positively impacting their lives. You will be empowered to address elevated risk situations through Brightside's Crisis Care Program, learning to utilize the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicide (CAMS) approach.

Qualifications
  • A valid and current license as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of California is required.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is necessary.

  • At least two years of experience providing mental health counseling services in a clinical setting, with a strong understanding of evidence-based practices.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with a diverse population.

  • Proficiency in using digital tools and technology for telehealth services and documentation.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with training in Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicide (CAMS) or familiarity with the Unified Protocol are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in a telehealth setting and proficiency with electronic medical records will be highly valued, as we seek individuals who are adaptable and enthusiastic about working remotely.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this licensed counseling position is competitive, between USD 100,000 and 105,000 annually. We provide comprehensive benefits including malpractice and tail insurance coverage, flexible scheduling without on-call work requirements, and an option for either 1099 or W2 employment depending on licensure status and state regulations.

Career Growth Opportunities

At Brightside, we believe in fostering the professional growth of our counselors. You will have access to extensive professional development opportunities, including evidence-based treatment training and leadership consultation, aimed at enhancing your clinical skills and career trajectory.

Why Join Our Team

By becoming a part of the Brightside team, you will have the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the lives of our clients while working in a supportive, innovative, and flexible environment. You will be equipped with the latest tools and resources designed to enhance your practice, along with a community of professionals dedicated to quality mental health care.
