Job description

Welcome to the Agentic Commerce Era

At Commerce, our mission is to empower businesses to innovate, grow, and thrive with our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. We believe in harnessing AI responsibly to unlock new possibilities, and we're looking for individuals who use it intentionally to solve problems, accelerate outcomes, and expand what's possible in their role. Our purpose is to help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers who shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you.

Commerce is building a new team to deliver a suite of conversational AI agents spanning the B2B commerce lifecycle - Product Discovery, Pricing & Quoting, Order Automation, Fulfillment & Delivery, and Post-Sale Support. These agents will let B2B buyers and sellers work through complex commerce workflows in natural language, built on an established internal agent platform (Go/Python, Google ADK, Gemini, AG-UI, Braintrust).

As the Senior Frontend Engineer on this team, you will own the unified agent frontend: a single streaming, generative-UI experience through which merchants and buyers interact with all five agents. This is a greenfield product built on proven platform patterns - you'll shape the user-facing surface of an entirely new product line.

BigCommerce, part of the Commerce brand family, helps merchants increase sales at every stage of their growth. From small startups to mid-market businesses and large enterprises, we provide the leading e-commerce platform. Our customers can then concentrate on what's most important: growing their businesses. We enable our customers to build, innovate, and grow, collectively reshaping the e-commerce industry.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build the unified agent frontend, delivering real-time streaming conversational experiences over SSE (AG-UI protocol)

  • Build and extend a library of generative UI components (product cards, cart and order summaries, quote views, escalation flows) rendered dynamically from agent output

  • Deliver the merchant-facing control panel settings and shopper-facing views for the agent suite

  • Own frontend architecture decisions: component structure, state management for streaming data, theming and embedding strategies across storefront environments

  • Collaborate closely with backend agent engineers on the clientserver event protocol and client-executed tools

  • Partner with product and design to deliver intuitive, useful, and delightful conversational experiences

  • Quickly build proof-of-concept solutions to validate user stories, then harden them for GA

  • Mentor other engineers and raise the bar on frontend quality across the team

Who Are You

  • 5+ years of frontend or full-stack software development experience

  • Education: Preferred minimum Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, SW, CE, MIS; or equivalent experience

  • Expert-level Javascript skills

  • Experience building real-time or streaming UIs (SSE, WebSockets) and managing the state challenges they create

  • Experience building conversational or AI-assistant UIs (chat, generative UI, copilots)

  • Strong product sense and demonstrated ability to own a user-facing surface end-to-end

  • Experience integrating frontends with complex backend APIs

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort in a fast-paced, exploratory environment

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional teams

  • Strong preference toward execution and delivery

Preferred:

  • Experience with e-commerce platforms or SaaS product development

  • Familiarity with design systems and embedding UIs into third-party or themed environments

  • Exposure to LLM-based products and their frontend patterns (token streaming, tool-call rendering, approval flows

  • Experience with automation tools or AI copilots

Work Where You Thrive

For candidates based in the Austin or Atlanta metro area, the position follows a hybrid work model with three days per week in the office, balancing focused individual work with meaningful in-person collaboration.
