What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote level designer?

To thrive as a Remote Level Designer, you need a deep understanding of game design principles, spatial reasoning, and proficiency with level editing tools, often supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with engines like Unity or Unreal Engine and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote work and creative iteration with distributed teams. These skills and qualities are essential to create engaging, functional game environments and to ensure smooth teamwork despite physical distance.

How do remote level designers typically collaborate with other team members given the virtual work environment?

Remote Level Designers frequently work with artists, programmers, and game designers through a combination of virtual meetings, project management tools, and shared digital assets. Regular check-ins and collaborative playtesting sessions help ensure alignment on design goals and maintain productivity despite the distance. Adapting to different time zones and being proactive about sharing progress are common challenges, but most studios provide structured workflows to support remote teamwork.

Our 3,000 BSN SPORTS employees strive to support the Heart of the Game by putting valuable time back into the day of coaches and administrators through excellent service platforms. Our company mission is simple: Save coaches and administrators time with everything they do off the field so they have more time to impact young lives on it.

LOCATION: Varsity Brands HQ - 14460 Varsity Brands Way, Farmers Branch, TX 75244

WORK TYPE: Hybrid - 4 days in office / 1 day remote

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

The Jr. UX Designer is responsible for executing real design tasks within digital feature products used by thousands of teams across the country. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in product design, including UI design, component development, and research execution, with close mentorship from senior team members. The successful candidate will gain production experience from day one, participate in usability testing sessions, and contribute to design critiques, all while learning industry standards for accessibility, content, and developer handoff.

We are the UX team behind how athletes, coaches, parents, and club leaders experience sport across BSN SPORTS and the broader Varsity Brands portfolio. We turn complex, high-impact challenges into intuitive products and experiences that people value and enjoy using. As a growing, collaborative team, we offer meaningful ownership, purposeful ways of working, and the opportunity to influence both the product roadmap and the future of experience design.
