What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote level designer?

To thrive as a Remote Level Designer, you need a deep understanding of game design principles, spatial reasoning, and proficiency with level editing tools, often supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with engines like Unity or Unreal Engine and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote work and creative iteration with distributed teams. These skills and qualities are essential to create engaging, functional game environments and to ensure smooth teamwork despite physical distance.

How do remote level designers typically collaborate with other team members given the virtual work environment?

Remote Level Designers frequently work with artists, programmers, and game designers through a combination of virtual meetings, project management tools, and shared digital assets. Regular check-ins and collaborative playtesting sessions help ensure alignment on design goals and maintain productivity despite the distance. Adapting to different time zones and being proactive about sharing progress are common challenges, but most studios provide structured workflows to support remote teamwork.

Job description

We're looking for an exceptional Staff Product Designer to play a defining role in shaping the future of Oura's enterprise experience. This is a high-impact opportunity to design the tools and dashboards that help employers, researchers, and clinicians unlock the power of population-level health data - while staying seamlessly connected to the personal wellness journey of every Oura member. The work you do here will directly influence how organizations make decisions that improve people's lives at scale.

You'll operate at the highest level of craft and strategy, partnering with Product, Engineering, Research, and Commercial teams to turn complex health data into experiences that feel clear, trustworthy, and genuinely useful. This is a hybrid-remote role based out of our San Francisco offices, with an expectation to be on-site at least half-time.

What you will do:

  • Drive the end-to-end design vision for Oura's enterprise web and mobile features - owning UX, UI, and data visualization while pushing our design system forward across every platform: web, mobile, tablet, printable reports, and beyond
  • Partner deeply with product managers, UX researchers, and engineers to build and continuously elevate the Oura  experience across every touchpoint - from first impression to daily habit
  • Move with fluency from early-stage concepts and interactive prototypes to flawless, production-ready designs that transform health data into insights organizations can actually act on
  • Set the standard for design excellence at Oura - mentoring peers, shaping team culture, and raising the bar for craft, accessibility, and brand consistency across every channel
  • Connect the dots across teams and external partners to deliver cohesive, multi-platform experiences that feel like one seamless product
  • Rally the company around a bold design vision through storytelling, clear communication, and work that speaks for itself

Requirements

We'd love to have you on the team if you bring:

  • 8+ years of UI/UX design experience, ideally within high-growth or enterprise-scale products where design has a real seat at the table
  • A portfolio that stops people in their tracks - showcasing exceptional UI/UX craft and sophisticated data visualization across web and mobile
  • Deep mastery of Figma and a sharp, versatile design toolkit
  • Prototyping skills that make ideas feel real and bring stakeholders along for the ride
  • A research-informed design instinct - you know how to turn user insights and analytics into decisions that hold up
  • A track record of not just working well with cross-functional teams, but making those teams better
  • Ease working with international and distributed teams across cultures and time zones
  • Deep fluency in web and mobile design patterns - and the creative confidence to break them when it matters
  • Significant experience building or shaping design systems that scale without losing soul
  • A rare ability to take complex health or technical data and make it feel simple, intuitive, and meaningful to the people who need it most

We love:

  • High level of curiosity for technology amplified by your design craft
  • Commitment to designing inclusive and accessible products

BENEFITS

At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own and we are continually looking to improve employee health and add to our benefits!

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary and equity packages
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave
  • Amazing culture of collaborative and passionate coworkers

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1: $198,050 - $233,000
