Job description

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the country in which the role is being hired. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Mark43's mission is to empower communities and their governments with modern technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We are a cloud-based public safety platform and design powerful, scalable, and elegant software products that set a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team.

Product Designers at Mark43 lead strategically, integrate various systems, champion design ideation, simplify complex workflows by collaborating with stakeholders, advocate for users, and deliver impactful designs for direct users in law enforcement agencies. You will be focusing on one product area, but have an impact on a breathe of various product areas including Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Advanced Analytics/Insights, and mobile applications. We're looking to have a designer with 7+ years of professional software product design experience, including deep and demonstrable expertise in managing their work autonomously.

At Mark43,

  • You will own the 0-1 product design process by conducting research, designing solutions from insights, iterating based on data, and collaborating closely with product and engineering to deliver best-in-class products.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate design thinking and innovation.
  • You will lead design solutions for law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, other first responders, and 911 dispatchers. The design focus will be on enhancing public safety, improving their focus, and minimizing cognitive load through effective information design, intuitive visual designs, dynamic animations, and responsive feedback mechanisms.
  • You will design across devices—ranging from multi-panel workstations to in-vehicle laptops, tablets, and mobile apps across various environments. Experience with responsive design, map interactions, and multimodality is nice to have.
  • You will proactively standardize design across the team for conducting feedback, planning roadmaps, and supporting engineering to drive the work forward.
  • You will present design solutions to our customers and leadership teams, actively seeking feedback, and iterating quickly.
  • You care deeply about product craftsmanship while efficiently prioritizing and completing design tasks, e.g., in Figma, and contribute to design systems and consistent pattern libraries.
  • You will drive AI/ML across the product portfolio, from adoption in design methodologies to advancing adoption in the product.
  • You will guide discovery ownership process including understanding the problem, conducting user research, generating ideas, collaborating cross-functionally and maintain design consistency.

Must have:

  • 7+ years of professional product design experience
  • 3+ years of designing complex enterprise SaaS products
  • Experience leading qualitative and quantitative UI/UX/user research
  • Experience with end-to-end design and shipping products
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in law-enforcement, fire, or EMS software is a plus
  • Experience co-designing with customers
  • Experience designing features for situational awareness
  • Excellent visual design and presentation skills
  • Understanding of native iOS and Android applications is helpful
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies

People who thrive on our team also tend to share the following characteristics:

  • Humble, open, and curious. You recognize that no one is perfect, and you will often be wrong, and you are excited about listening and learning being a big part of your job.
  • Attentive, active listeners. You are interested in what others have to say and illustrate your interest with your actions.
  • Enthusiastic collaborators. You understand that the best outcomes are achieved through shared ownership and seek to spread knowledge and expand participation rather than restrict it.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty. You know that sometimes problems and situations cannot be simplified or fully understood and are at ease working within this type of haziness.
  • Passionate about personal growth. You view mistakes as opportunities for learning and want to grow as a designer, colleague, and person.

As a Product & Design team member, you will be contributing to critical public safety solutions. Your designs will directly impact communities and agencies. You can expect to work with team members who value ideas over ego and embrace diversity of thought. You'll work in a remote-friendly environment where your health and well-being are prioritized through health, dental, and vision plans for employees and their families, as well as unlimited paid time off, sabbaticals, and competitive parental leave benefits.

We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that.
