Job description

*Our ideal candidate will be hybrid (two days per week) out of our Austin, Texas office. We will also consider remote, Texas-based candidates who can come to the office 2-3 times per quarter*

Overview of Job/Team:

We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to drive AI innovation across SpyCloud by exploring emerging technologies, rapidly prototyping new ideas, and turning successful experiments into scalable capabilities that can be leveraged across the organization. This highly autonomous role requires deep expertise in modern AI systems, agentic workflows, and graph-based technologies, along with the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence technical strategy, and communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and business stakeholders. Working closely with engineering, product, data science, investigations, and executive leadership, you will help shape SpyCloud's AI strategy and accelerate the adoption of transformative technologies across our products and operations.

What You'll Do

  • Drive AI innovation across SpyCloud by identifying, evaluating, and applying emerging technologies in AI, agents, and knowledge systems.
  • Rapidly prototype new products, workflows, and capabilities to validate technical feasibility and business value.
  • Architect and build scalable AI systems that combine LLMs, graph technologies, proprietary intelligence, and cloud-native services.
  • Partner with product, engineering, data science, and executive leadership to transform successful prototypes into production-ready capabilities.
  • Develop reusable frameworks, tools, and reference architectures that enable teams across SpyCloud to leverage AI effectively.
  • Evaluate and benchmark emerging models, agent frameworks, and AI tooling, providing technical guidance on adoption and best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical strategy through hands-on leadership, clear communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including experience operating at the Staff or Senior Staff level.
  • Proven track record of independently driving ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from concept through adoption.
  • Deep hands-on experience building applications powered by LLMs, agentic systems, retrieval architectures, and modern AI tooling.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype, iterate, and validate new ideas while maintaining strong engineering judgment.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale graph databases or knowledge graph systems at scale (Neo4j, Neptune, TigerGraph, JanusGraph, or similar).
  • Strong software engineering and systems design skills, including experience building distributed cloud-native applications, preferably in AWS.
  • Excellent communication and influence skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable balancing exploratory innovation with production-quality engineering and long-term platform thinking.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building cybersecurity, fraud detection, identity intelligence, or threat intelligence systems.
  • Experience with knowledge graphs, entity resolution, and large-scale relationship analytics.
  • Experience building developer platforms, internal frameworks, or shared infrastructure adopted across multiple teams.
  • Familiarity with AI evaluation, observability, benchmarking, and governance practices.
  • Experience working with large-scale data platforms containing billions of entities and relationships.
