DESCRIPTION

The Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust (BHMT) is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Programmer Analyst to support its mission of empowering Kaiser Permanente’s union workforce through lifelong learning and career development. As part of our Information Technology team, you will play a crucial role in developing, documenting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing web-based applications that enhance access to BHMT’s diverse career development programs.

This role is ideal for a self-motivated developer with a strong foundation in the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack and wireframing platforms (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, or HTML/PHP sandboxes) to demonstrate proof-of-concept functionality. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and troubleshooting applications, optimizing database performance, and contributing to system reliability and security. In addition, you will have the opportunity to drive innovation by staying up to date with emerging technologies and best practices that enhance user experience and program accessibility.

This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to effectively contribute to a fast-paced and mission-driven environment. The Programmer Analyst shares the responsibility with all other BHMT staff to promote and adhere to BHMT’s workplace guiding principles -- Teamwork, Diversity, Service Focus, Life-Long Learning, Innovation, Integrity, Supportive, and Resilience. If you are eager to apply your technical expertise to support workforce development initiatives and help thousands of union employees navigate their career journeys, we encourage you to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Technical Support and Development

  • After developing fluency in BHMT’s LAMP stack, provide coding assistance to the Senior Application Developer.
  • Maintain, document and troubleshoot applications built on the LAMP stack.
  • Design, create, and manage databases using MySQL, including crafting efficient SQL queries.
  • Collaborate with the team using Git for version control, following established workflows and code documentation for technical and non-technical readers.
  • Adhere to team-specific coding and security standards to ensure system reliability.
  • Write, test, and debug PHP code, with an emphasis on object-oriented programming and adherence to team-specific standards.
  • Work with front-end technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery to enhance user interfaces.
  • Contribute to debugging and problem-solving efforts to ensure system reliability.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and trends to improve processes and solutions.

Technical and Business Documentation

  • Create and maintain technical documentation of BHMT’s internal code base, databases, and workflows to clarify how systems operate and interconnect.
  • Develop business documentation describing how internal systems enforce or support organizational policies.
  • Translate technical concepts into accessible, business-friendly language for diverse audiences.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to version control standards and is reviewed regularly for accuracy.
  • Maintain measurable standards of completeness and accuracy as part of annual performance metrics.

Rapid Prototyping and Application Planning

  • In collaboration with the IT Business Analyst, create rapid prototypes to illustrate new application features or enhancements.
  • Facilitate prototype review sessions with business units to validate requirements and guide the Senior Application Developer’s final build.
  • Deliver prototypes that clearly communicate user experience flow, data handling, and integration points.

Data Visualization and Reporting Support

  • Serve as a backup to the Power BI Developer, supporting data reporting needs when required.
  • Collaborate with business units to gather and clarify dashboard requirements.
  • Access internal reporting databases to generate reports and visualizations using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Maintain standardized dashboard templates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and branding alignment across all reporting outputs.

Artificial Intelligence and Automation Support

  • Partner with the IT Director to assist in implementing AI-driven and process automation projects, such as automating reporting workflows, optimizing data flows, or exploring intelligent process improvements.
  • Document AI-related implementations clearly, specifying data inputs, automation triggers, and governance considerations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
