Job description

The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Discipline Lead to provide national leadership and technical oversight for civil and geotechnical engineering projects throughout the United States.
The successful candidate will lead complex engineering projects from planning through construction while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across environmental, renewable energy, civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a technical leader, mentor engineering staff, support business development initiatives, and expand Tetra Tech's national civil and geotechnical practice.
Projects may include renewable energy facilities, sediment remediation projects, pipelines, land development, marine and coastal structures, environmental remediation projects, and other complex infrastructure developments.
Location: Flexible U.S. Location (Hybrid/Remote Eligible)

Essential Job Functions:
Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the National Civil/Geotechnical Discipline Lead for civil and geotechnical engineering projects throughout the United States.
  • Lead and support civil and geotechnical engineering projects from planning through construction.
  • Integrate civil and structural design solutions with environmental, geotechnical, and renewable energy project requirements.
  • Apply engineering principles and interpret geotechnical data to solve complex technical and forensic engineering challenges.
  • Conduct civil and geotechnical engineering analyses and prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documents.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record where appropriate.
  • Perform engineering evaluations and provide recommendations for project development and implementation.
  • Support permitting, design, and construction activities for a variety of infrastructure and energy projects.

Project Management & Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental teams.
  • Coordinate engineering activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Manage technical tasks and support project delivery objectives.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Participate in client meetings and support business development initiatives.
  • Support strategic growth of Tetra Tech's civil and geotechnical engineering practice.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10-15 years of progressive professional engineering experience with a geotechnical focus.
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis software and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and construction practices.
  • Experience leading technical tasks, including geotechnical field investigation programs and multidisciplinary engineering efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • HAZWOPER training or ability to obtain.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Structural Engineering with a geotechnical focus.

  • Ability to perform field investigations and site visits as required.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry field equipment and materials.

Work Environment:
  • Office-based position with field and project site responsibilities.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental teams.
  • Occasional travel to project sites throughout the United States.
  • Exposure to active construction, industrial, and environmental project sites as required.

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $160,000 - $200,000 annually
