Job description

National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a part-time Junior Graphic Designer to join the Marketing and Communications team. This energetic, creative, and passionate professional will play a key role in celebrating springtime throughout Washington, DC and surrounding areas.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc. is dedicated to promoting the beauty of nature and international friendship through year-round programs, events, and educational initiatives that enhance our environment, showcase arts and culture, and build community spirit.

Position Summary

The Junior Graphic Designer supports the Marketing & Communications team through the ideation, design, execution, and production of creative assets that advance organizational marketing, branding, and communications initiatives. Reporting to the Brand Design & Creative Manager, this role contributes to a wide range of projects including event branding, Festival signage, advertising campaigns, digital marketing materials, print collateral, and support brand resources.

The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented designer with 1–3 years of professional experience who is comfortable managing multiple projects, collaborating across departments, and translating established brand standards into engaging visual communications.

This is a part-time position.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Design & Production

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce assets across digital, print, and environmental applications for Signature Events, Community Programs, and other Festival initiatives.
  • Develop and execute high-quality communication designs including document layout, presentations, logos/identities, infographics, and more.
  • Contribute to and help implement the visual brand identity from concept through delivery, supporting quality, aesthetic cohesion, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Assess organization of brand assets and identify opportunities to improve brand systems for internal and external partners use
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards in design production
  • Prepare print-ready files and digital assets according to production specifications and deadlines.

Event Branding & Festival Signage

  • Develop visual concepts and branded creative for indoor and outdoor Festival and event experiences.
  • Design event signage, wayfinding systems, banners, stage graphics, sponsor recognition materials, and environmental graphics.
  • Ensure all materials meet brand guidelines, quality standards and maintain the Festival’s brand voice
  • Coordinate production-ready artwork with vendors, printers, and event stakeholders as needed.
  • Support the Brand Creative & Brand Manager in additional creative direction as needed

Marketing & Advertising Support

  • Design creative assets for:
    • Digital advertising
    • Social media campaigns
    • Print advertising, including newspaper placements
    • Promotional collateral and marketing materials
    • Website promotions as needed
    • Email marketing campaigns as needed (e-blasts)
  • Collaborate with marketing team members to develop campaign creative that supports organizational goals.
  • Create and manage QR codes, Bitly links, and other campaign tracking tools.
  • Monitor engagement metrics and performance data related to marketing assets and campaigns.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Work closely with Marketing & Communications team members on strategic initiatives and campaign execution.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand project objectives and deliver creative solutions.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions, creative reviews, and project planning meetings.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of professional graphic design experience.
  • Diploma, certificate, or degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, branding, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience preparing files for both digital and print production.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative and collaborative work style with ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • This position requires in-office days in downtown Washington, DC. You must live within commuting distance or have plans to move to the area.

  • Experience working within established brand standards and guidelines
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and digital advertising assets.
  • Basic understanding of marketing analytics and performance reporting.
  • Experience using URL tracking tools such as Bitly and QR code management platforms.
  • Familiarity with Canva, PowerPoint, and other collaborative design platforms.

Timing

  • This is a part-time, temporary position that will start no earlier than October 2, 2026 and end May 30, 2027.
