Remote Java Spring Developer information

What is a remote Java Spring developer?

A Remote Java Spring Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building applications using the Java programming language and the Spring framework while working from a location outside the traditional office, such as from home. Their primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining server-side applications, APIs, and web services using Spring technologies like Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data. Remote Java Spring Developers collaborate with teams using online communication tools and version control systems to deliver scalable and secure software solutions. This role requires strong knowledge of Java, Spring, and related technologies, as well as self-motivation and effective remote work skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Java Spring developer?

To thrive as a Remote Java Spring Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, deep understanding of the Spring Framework, and a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Maven, Jenkins, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is typically expected, along with certifications like Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer (OCPJP) being beneficial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, proactive communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to deliver robust, scalable solutions in a distributed work environment.

How does a remote Java Spring developer typically collaborate with team members across different locations?

Remote Java Spring Developers frequently work with distributed teams, using tools like Slack, Zoom, and Jira to communicate and coordinate. Daily stand-ups and code reviews are common practices to ensure everyone is aligned and project goals are met. Developers often pair program, share code repositories via Git, and participate in sprint planning sessions to stay connected and productive. Effective communication and proactive updates are essential to overcome the challenges of working remotely and maintaining smooth collaboration.

What is the difference between Remote Java Spring Developer vs Remote Java Backend Developer?

AspectRemote Java Spring DeveloperRemote Java Backend Developer
Required SkillsJava, Spring Framework, REST APIs, SQLJava, Spring or other frameworks, Database skills, API development
Work EnvironmentRemote, collaborative teams, Agile projectsRemote, backend-focused, often in tech or software companies
Industry UsageSoftware development, enterprise applicationsWeb services, enterprise systems, cloud applications

The main difference is that a Remote Java Spring Developer specializes specifically in Java and the Spring framework, focusing on building and maintaining Spring-based applications. In contrast, a Remote Java Backend Developer may work with various frameworks and technologies for backend development, not limited to Spring. Both roles often work remotely in similar industries, but the Spring Developer role emphasizes expertise in the Spring ecosystem.

Job description

Remote Full Time Individual Contributor +8 Years of Experience

Staff Engineer - Client Experience Who We Are

Yuno is the AI-native operating system of global commerce, powering the financial infrastructure of enterprise merchants, banks, and wallets. Through a single API, Yuno connects them to pay-ins, payouts, fraud prevention, KYC/KYB, and stablecoins globally, so they can operate everywhere. Agnostic by design and connected to 1,000+ payment methods and 460+ integrations in 190+ countries, Yuno optimizes acceptance rates, reduces costs, and strengthens security through specialized AI agents that learn from every transaction. Global brands including McDonald's, NetEase Games, GoFundMe, and Rappi run their payments on Yuno.

About The Role

Yuno is looking for a Staff Engineer to be a senior technical leader across our engineering organization - architecting the robust, scalable systems that process payments for global brands, and raising the technical bar for the teams around you. You'll take on our hardest technical problems, shape architecture and technical strategy, and turn complex, real-world payment challenges into elegant, maintainable solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll still design and build, but your impact comes as much from mentoring engineers, driving technical vision, and making the decisions that shape the platform's direction as from the code you write.

How AI Shows Up in This Role
  • As a Staff Engineer at an AI-native company, you'll shape how AI is used across engineering - architecting AI-native systems and helping define the AI-driven development practices the whole org adopts

  • AI is our default execution layer: you're expected to use AI-assisted tooling fluently across design, implementation, testing, and review, and to bring good judgment to how the team does the same

Your Contribution Will Be
  • Technical leadership and mentorship - set a high bar for technical excellence, mentor and coach engineers, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the team

  • Architecture and system design - architect and build robust, scalable, and maintainable systems, tackling the deepest technical complexity in the platform

  • Complex delivery - drive the successful delivery of complex, cross-team projects, making sure they meet business goals and ship on time

  • Technical vision and strategy - contribute to the technical vision and roadmap, and help define and execute engineering strategy aligned with company goals

  • Cross-functional collaboration - work closely with product, design, and stakeholders, translating technical concepts clearly for technical and non-technical audiences alike

  • Quality and performance - optimize performance and scalability through efficient algorithms and clean code, and safeguard quality through rigorous testing and reviews

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6-12 months, you've led the architecture of at least one major system, become a trusted technical voice on strategy and roadmap, and measurably raised the engineering bar through mentorship, reviews, and the standards you set.

Skills You Need Minimum Qualifications
  • Extensive software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Go and/or Kotlin (our core backend stack) and strength across the full stack

  • A proven track record designing and building robust, scalable, and maintainable systems, with a solid grasp of architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver innovative solutions

  • Strong experience with AWS and cloud-native services (RDS, ECS, EKS, S3, and similar)

  • Excellent automated testing practices - unit, integration, and end-to-end - within Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD workflows

  • Proven technical leadership - mentoring and coaching engineers, and driving technical vision, strategy, and delivery of complex projects

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues quickly

  • English - advanced proficiency, written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the payments or fintech industry, operating at global scale

  • Performance optimization and efficient algorithms for high-throughput, low-latency systems

  • Static analysis and code-quality tooling (e.g., SonarQube) and mature CI/CD pipelines

  • Python or other languages for data, tooling, and automation

Nice to Have
  • A track record of introducing new engineering practices or standards across multiple teams

  • Open-source contributions or technical writing that raised the bar for others

Tech Stack
  • Languages - Go and Kotlin (core), Java

  • Frameworks - Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux; Go standard library

  • Messaging - Apache Kafka, SQS

  • Databases - PostgreSQL, Redis

  • Infrastructure - AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform

  • Observability - Datadog, OpenTelemetry

  • CI/CD - GitHub Actions, ArgoCD

  • Version Control - Git / GitHub

What We Offer at Yuno
  • Competitive Compensation

  • Remote Work - you can work from everywhere

  • Home Office Bonus - a one-time allowance to set up your ideal home office

  • Work Equipment

  • Stock Options

  • Health Plan wherever you are

  • Flexible Days Off

  • Language, Professional, and Personal Growth courses
