What is a remote Java React developer?

Remote Java React jobs are positions that involve working with both Java (a popular backend programming language) and React (a widely-used JavaScript library for building user interfaces) while allowing you to work from any location outside of a traditional office setting. These roles typically require developers to build and maintain web applications, handle both server-side and client-side development, and collaborate with teams online. Employers often look for candidates with strong experience in Java, React, and related technologies, as well as good communication skills to work effectively in a remote environment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote Java React developer?

To thrive as a Remote Java React Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java for backend development and React.js for frontend work, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, RESTful APIs, Docker, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is also important, along with experience using CI/CD systems. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication skills are crucial for collaborating effectively in a remote environment. These skills ensure you can build robust, scalable applications while working independently and integrating seamlessly with distributed teams.

How do remote Java React developers typically collaborate with team members?

Remote Java React developers often work closely with cross-functional teams, including backend engineers, UX/UI designers, and product managers, using collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub. Regular virtual meetings, code reviews, and agile sprint planning sessions are common practices to maintain alignment and transparency. Effective communication and proactive status updates are essential for overcoming challenges related to time zone differences and ensuring that project milestones are met on schedule.

Job description

An established strategy consulting firm is looking for a remote full stack engineer to join the team behind its geospatial intelligence platform for telecom network analytics. The platform has been in production for over a decade (Java, React, PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and is now being rebuilt into an AI-first system with interactive analytics, richer reporting, and next-generation fiber network design at national scale.

  • Build features across the front end, backend services, and geospatial data stores that support automated network design and national-scale data exploration
  • Improve algorithms for fiber network planning, including geospatial analysis, routing, clustering, and cost modeling
  • Refactor the architecture to separate core domain logic from IO and orchestration so it can be reused across workflows
  • Prototype AI-assisted analysis and agentic workflows that help users interrogate network designs and financial outcomes
  • Build reporting outputs that combine maps, charts, tables, and engineering or financial narratives into shareable analyses
  • Take work from proof of concept through production, with tests, observability, and performance tuning along the way

What you need:

  • 5+ years of full stack engineering, ideally on data-intensive, geospatial, analytics, or infrastructure planning platforms
  • Advanced JavaScript/TypeScript with deep React experience
  • Strong backend engineering in Java, Node.js, or Python, with the ability to design APIs and domain models
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and spatial data or large-scale data processing
  • Comfort with graph and network theory, routing, optimization, and computational geometry
  • Solid architecture instincts around modularity and composable system design

Nice to have: telecom or fiber network planning background, experience with mapping libraries like D3.js, deck.gl, or Mapbox, exposure to LLM or agentic development workflows, and cloud/container experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform.

Comp and logistics:
$120-180K annually or $60-100/hour, contract. Initial 3 month term. Remote-first, globally distributed team.
