Job Description Summary

A full-time Laboratory Technician position is available in the Tomoyasu Laboratory at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

Job Description

Job responsibilities:

The successful candidate will participate in research on insect molecular biology and development using Drosophila and Tribolium as model systems.

  • Performing routine molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, gene cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, sequencing analyses, and related procedures.
  • Conducting histological experiments using insect tissues.
  • Documenting specimens using compound and confocal microscopy.
  • Maintaining Drosophila and Tribolium stocks.
  • Assisting with general laboratory organization and day-to-day research activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong technical skills in molecular and developmental biology.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with an M.S. degree in Biology or a related field.
  • Prior research experience in insect genetics, developmental biology, or molecular biology.
  • Experience working with Drosophila, Tribolium, or other model insects.
  • Experience with microscopy, histology, or molecular cloning techniques.
