Role Overview
The Inventory Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing inventory costs, supporting accurate financial reporting, and participating in the month-end close process. This role ensures the integrity of inventory valuation, monitors cost variances, and partners with operations and supply chain teams to improve cost efficiency and internal controls.
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and inventory-related accruals
  • Monitor and investigate inventory variances (purchase price variance, scrap, and obsolescence)
  • Reconcile inventory subledger to general ledger and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts; analyze results and ensure proper adjustments are recorded
  • Review and maintain inventory reserves (excess and obsolete inventory)
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and production teams to ensure accurate cost data and inventory transactions
  • Assist in the development and documentation of internal controls related to inventory and costing processes
  • Support audit requests (internal and external) by providing documentation and explanations
  • Prepare and analyze reports related to inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, and gross margin

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in inventory or cost accounting
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles and cost accounting methodologies (standard costing, FIFO, etc.)
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

This a hybrid role, with 4 days in our Montoursville, PA office
