Overview of the Role:

The Supply Chain / Material Planning Intern will gain hands-on exposure to the full supply chain planning cycle at Woodstream. Working alongside experienced planners and purchasing professionals, the intern will support daily material planning, production scheduling, and inventory management activities. This is a structured, project-based internship designed to provide meaningful experience for recent college graduates pursuing careers in supply chain, operations, or business.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are representative of the work performed during this internship. All activities are conducted under the supervision and direction of an assigned planning mentor:

  • Assist in analyzing MRP signals to understand purchasing and production requirements based on sales projections and inventory strategies
  • Support the creation and maintenance of daily and weekly production schedules under the direction of the planning team
  • Help monitor actual production against schedule on a daily and weekly basis and assist with attainment reporting
  • Assist with placing and tracking purchase orders for materials required to support production requirements
  • Support efforts to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies in collaboration with the inventory management team
  • Help maintain inventory tracking data and assist with reviewing aging inventory parameters
  • Participate in shop floor interactions to observe how production schedules are executed in a live manufacturing environment
  • Assist with data gathering and analysis related to intra-company transfer identification
  • Support the planning team with new product launch activities by tracking material readiness and supplier timelines
  • Help document process improvement observations and contribute ideas for enhancing material planning workflows
  • Attend and participate in cross-functional planning meetings with customer care, logistics, quality, and marketing teams
  • Complete an assigned capstone project related to supply chain planning or inventory management, to be presented to the planning team at the conclusion of the internship
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


PROJECT DESCRIPTION:


This internship supports the supply chain planning function within Woodstream's manufacturing plant. Under the guidance and supervision of an experienced planner, the intern will assist with the execution of production scheduling, material tracking, and inventory monitoring activities. The intern will develop a foundational understanding of how MRP systems, production plans, and purchasing processes work together to ensure product availability for customer requirements.

By the end of this internship, participants will have developed working knowledge in the following areas:

  • How manufacturing companies use ERP/MRP systems to plan and manage materials and production
  • The relationship between customer demand, production scheduling, and inventory positioning
  • The purchasing and procurement cycle, including purchase order creation and vendor communication
  • How to read and interpret supply chain KPIs and attainment reporting
  • Cross-functional collaboration between supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams
  • Practical use of Microsoft Excel and SAP (S/4HANA) in a real manufacturing environment

Successful Candidate Profile:


Required:

  • Must have recently completed a Bachelor's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data sorting, filtering, and basic pivot tables
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively within a team environment

Preferred:

  • Coursework in supply chain management, operations, logistics, or procurement
  • Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or operations environment
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP concepts (SAP S/4HANA experience a significant plus)
  • Exposure to Power BI, Access, or other data visualization or database tools
  • APICS student membership or coursework a plus
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and a creative approach to problem solving
