What Are the Qualifications to Get a Remote Internship?

The primary qualifications for getting a remote internship are enrollment in a relevant educational program and meeting the company's criteria for remote interns. These criteria vary but often include things like meeting certain grade points averages or getting a recommendation from your school. Such recommendations are often the best way to get a remote internship, so be sure to talk to your school about what you can do to get it. Even if the school does not have an existing relationship with a company, they may be able to establish a new relationship and guarantee you the internship, so it is worth attempting. Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of a remote internship requires communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under minimal supervision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Intern, strong self-motivation, time management, and foundational knowledge relevant to the internship field are essential, often supported by current enrollment in a related degree program. Familiarity with digital collaboration tools such as Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, or project management platforms like Trello is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and a proactive approach help remote interns stand out and build professional relationships despite physical distance. These skills and qualities are critical for successfully contributing to projects, staying organized, and maximizing learning in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced during a remote internship, and how can I overcome them?

Remote internships often require a high level of self-motivation and strong communication skills, as you may not have the same in-person support as traditional internships. Common challenges include staying organized, managing time effectively, and building rapport with colleagues virtually. To overcome these, it's helpful to establish a clear daily routine, actively participate in virtual meetings, and regularly check in with your supervisor or team. Utilizing collaboration tools and setting clear goals can also help you stay connected and productive throughout your internship.

Employer UsageInternships offered by companies for trainingCompanies hiring for entry-level roles for long-term employment
Search IntentLooking for training or experience opportunitiesSeeking permanent or semi-permanent roles after internship

Remote internships are typically short-term, training-focused positions for students or recent graduates, while remote entry-level positions are ongoing roles for professionals starting their careers. Internships emphasize learning, whereas entry-level roles involve more responsibilities and potential for long-term employment.

What are remote internships?

Remote internships are work experience opportunities that allow interns to perform their duties from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home, using digital communication tools. These positions provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities similar to in-person internships, but offer greater flexibility and often eliminate the need for relocation. Remote interns collaborate with their teams via email, video conferencing, and project management platforms, making it possible to gain valuable professional skills regardless of geographic location.

Job description

About Thrive
Thrive is a fast-growing software company based in Philadelphia with about half of its employees distributed throughout the US. Our mission is to make hiring for executive leadership positions easier, faster, and more equitable. Thrive’s clients include some of the world’s largest search firms, venture capital/private equity firms, and corporate executive recruitment teams.

Executive hiring is unlike typical staffing and recruiting. Most executives are passive candidates, meaning they don't apply for positions. They are commonly found through well-maintained networks and relationships. Unfortunately, most popular recruiting tools and CRMs don’t work well for this use case. Enter Thrive, purpose-built software for executive recruiting and leadership talent management. We are aggressively investing in building disruptive solutions that help talent professionals find the best leaders, build curated talent networks, and place executives.

Thrive was born out of True, one of the fastest-growing organizations in the talent advisory space.

True is a global platform of companies that optimizes value creation by placing executive talent, developing business leaders, creating diverse and inclusive networks, and using innovative technology to advance executive talent priorities. With offices in North America, EMEA, & APAC, True’s team of industry and functional experts leverage their deep networks to connect companies with leading talent to transform businesses and industries.

This is a full-time position remote (Hybrid available in Los Angeles, CA & Philadelphia, PA) position. You may choose to work in our office or work remotely from a home office, but you must be authorized to work in the U.S. and operate a normal 8 hour working day between the hours of 8am and 8pm EST.

Duration: 6 Months

Thrive TRM’s Co-Op Program
Thrive TRM is the executive search software powering 30,000+ leadership hires a year through cutting-edge talent data analysis. Unlike a standard, short-term internship, a co-op is an immersive, 6-month sprint where you operate as a fully integrated member of the team. You aren't just shadowing—you are owning real projects, building real tools, and driving measurable business impact from day one.

The Role
Want to build the future of Go-To-Market (GTM)? We’re looking for a highly ambitious Growth Marketing & AI Intern to help us scale our revenue engine.

You will be acting as an internal builder and growth strategist—researching high-value audiences, building automated AI workflows from scratch, and architecting the technical demos our sales team uses to close deals.

We are looking for a technically adept builder. You should have hands-on experience crafting complex workflow automations, integrating APIs, and leveraging modern tools like n8n, Clay, Claude Code, or similar platforms.

If you are curious about marketing and love stringing together data and AI models to solve complex business problems, this is the role for you.

What You Will Do
Strategic Marketing & Audience Engagement
  • Master the Market: Segment our core customer landscape to deeply understand their workflows and pain points
  • Create a High-Impact Asset: Build a unique, data-driven marketing asset connecting our product insights to customer goals
  • Drive Revenue: Your success will be measured by the engagement and pipeline your asset generates
AI Agent & Workflow Orchestration
  • Scale Our GTM: Build and deploy functional AI workflows to streamline marketing ops. You will actively build AI-enabled automations across:
    • Content: Ingests long-form content and auto-generates platform-specific social posts in our brand voice
    • Social Listening: Scans the web for buying signals, brand mentions, and sentiment, alerting the GTM team in real-time
    • Competitive Intel: Tracks competitor changes (pricing, features, messaging) and drops actionable briefings into Slack
    • CRM Enrichment: Automatically verifies, cleans, and enriches our lead database so our sales engine runs on pristine data
Demo Engineering & Environment Ownership
  • Build Technical Demos: Craft compelling, use-case-driven product demos that perfectly showcase Thrive's capabilities to high-value prospects.
  • Own the Environment: Manage, troubleshoot, and continuously improve our core sales demo environment so it is always polished and ready for the GTM team.
  • Maintain Pristine Data: Architect and maintain the backend data within the demo environment over time, ensuring the platform always looks active, realistic, and tailored to our audience.
Who You Are and What You’ll Learn
  • A Technical self-starter comfortable with a high degree of agency. You have a bias for action and the technical chops to back it up. You don't wait for instructions—you ideate, flag roadblocks quickly, bring solutions, and are comfortable deep-diving into tools like n8n and Clay to get the job done.
  • You will leave this 6-month co-op with hands-on experience in AI orchestration, GTM strategy, technical sales engineering, and applied data analysis

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
