Pharmacy Technician – Prior Authorization | Fully Remote



Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Fully Remote
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM
Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM


About the Opportunity


We are seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician – Prior Authorization to join a healthcare team supporting members, healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other callers through the medication prior authorization process.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician who enjoys combining healthcare knowledge, customer service, administrative coordination, and technology in a fully remote environment.

In this role, you will help ensure prior authorization requests are processed accurately and efficiently while providing professional, compassionate support to callers. Clinical questions and decisions requiring pharmacist judgment are escalated appropriately.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle high-volume incoming calls and faxes from members, providers, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide professional and knowledgeable assistance throughout the criteria-based prior authorization process.
  • Review and process authorization requests according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of approvals and denials.
  • Communicate professionally with members, providers, patients, and pharmacies.
  • Identify questions or situations requiring clinical judgment and appropriately transfer them to a pharmacist.
  • Accurately navigate pharmacy, claims, authorization, and other healthcare systems.
  • Protect confidential member and patient information while following applicable policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative and customer service activities in a fast-paced healthcare call center environment.


Required Qualifications

  • Active National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • At least 1 year of pharmacy technician experience, preferably in an administrative support or healthcare setting.
  • At least 1 year of high-volume customer service or call center experience; healthcare call center experience is strongly preferred.
  • Prior authorization experience.
  • Eligibility for state pharmacy technician registration, certification, or licensure as required by applicable regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Advanced computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to accurately document information while managing multiple systems and conversations.
  • Verifiable high school diploma or GED.


Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following healthcare environments is highly valued:

  • Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM)
  • Health plans
  • Specialty pharmacy
  • Managed care
  • Pharmacy claims
  • Medication prior authorization
  • Healthcare call centers

Experience with pharmacy, claims, and prior authorization systems is a plus.


Remote Work Requirements


This position is 100% remote with no onsite requirement. Successful candidates must have:

  • Previous work-from-home experience preferred.
  • A dedicated, private workspace suitable for handling confidential healthcare information.
  • A reliable hardwired internet connection.
  • Strong computer proficiency and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
