About the Team
We're seeking a passionate News Editor who can contribute to theScore's industry-leading mobile sports experience. Catering to theScore's die-hard user base, the News Editor will produce written articles and curate both video and social media content to deliver the news and analysis fans crave. The ideal candidate operates with a digital-first mindset and can deliver clean, concise breaking news copy on deadline in addition to engrossing headlines and push alerts. The News Editor will also be tasked with delivering informative, entertaining, and thoughtful feature content as required.
About the Work

  • Monitor breaking news and trending content across the sports landscape, using news judgement and consulting with Supervising Editors to identify the most pertinent items.
  • Write informative and engaging breaking news articles and headlines/captions which accurately summarize storylines as they unfold.
  •  Live coverage of games and key events throughout the sports calendar.
  • Produce engaging push alert copy that communicates vital breaking news, must-see video, and must-read featured analysis.
  • Curate news feeds with a mix of news articles from a variety of sources along with video and social media content.
  • Pitch and execute featured content related to sports events and news items. E.g., Winners and losers from NBA free agency; Every NFL team's biggest question mark entering training camp; 10 rising soccer talents ready for superstardom
  •   Other duties asrequired.

About You

  • Extensive knowledge of major sports, including: teams, players, stats, history, economics, etc.
  •  Knowledge of international soccer leagues, teams and players strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of modern digital journalism, social media, and the mobile landscape.
  •  Previousexperience as a news editor and/or writer in a post-secondary or professional newsroom setting is preferred.
  •  A degree in journalism is preferred.
  •  Ability to work under pressure and confidently make immediate editorial judgments in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to write news, headlines, and feature content on deadline with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to be impactful in a large environment.
  •  Available and prepared to work weekends, evenings.
