Insurance Verification Coordinator
Location: Remote (Must reside in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida)
Pay: $17.50 - $26.00/hour
Work Environment
100% Remote position supporting hospital revenue cycle operations. Candidates must reside in an approved state. Training may range from one week to one month and will include Epic and payer portal systems.

About the Role
The Insurance Verification Coordinator is responsible for obtaining insurance eligibility, benefits verification, prior authorizations, and pre-certifications for hospital services. This individual serves as a key liaison between patients, payers, providers, scheduling teams, and clinical staff to ensure timely approvals, accurate documentation, and denial prevention. The ideal candidate will have strong hospital-based insurance verification experience, knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced revenue cycle environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage information for scheduled services.
• Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications for inpatient, outpatient, elective, surgical, and urgent services.
• Communicate with insurance carriers through phone, fax, and payer portals.
• Document authorizations, copays, deductibles, coinsurance, out-of-pocket amounts, and patient financial responsibility.
• Partner with providers, scheduling teams, case management, utilization review, and clinical departments to secure required approvals.
• Notify patients and providers of coverage limitations, authorization issues, or terminated benefits.
• Research payer-specific authorization requirements and medical necessity criteria.
• Monitor team mailboxes, emails, faxes, and calls to ensure timely resolution of authorization-related requests.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews and maintain documentation accuracy.
• Escalate unresolved authorization concerns to leadership as needed.
• Meet productivity expectations of approximately 40-47 accounts per day while maintaining quality standards.
Required Skills & Experience
• 3+ years of insurance verification and prior authorization experience.
• Hospital revenue cycle, patient access, business office, or related healthcare experience.
• Knowledge of insurance benefits, eligibility verification, and authorization processes.
• Experience working with CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
