Job description

Build the integrations that keep our technology ecosystem connected and moving forward.
Hastings Insurance is seeking an Integration Developer to help build, enhance, and support the core APIs and microservices connecting our Property & Casualty systems. Working alongside senior developers and enterprise architects, you'll help ensure data flows reliably across our enterprise footprint while actively contributing to our ongoing system modernization.
This role is ideal for an intellectually curious mid-level developer with solid backend C# fundamentals who wants to deepen their hands-on experience with modern microservices, containerized deployments, and AI-assisted development workflows.
Location & Schedule
This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role may be performed onsite at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters or in a hybrid arrangement. We will also consider remote candidates who reside in one of our operating states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin.
What You'll Do
  • Build & Maintain | Develop, test, and deploy maintainable microservices, REST APIs, and integration components connecting core P&C applications.
  • Modernize Architecture | Work closely with senior developers to expand our catalog of decoupled backend services and adopt containerized deployment practices.
  • Support System Reliability | Assist in troubleshooting, maintaining, and enhancing existing integration workflows to ensure system performance and data integrity.
  • Adopt Modern Tooling | Utilize AI-assisted development practices (e.g., leveraging AI tools for coding, unit testing, and debugging) to increase daily productivity and code quality.
  • Collaborate & Estimate | Translate functional requirements into technical specs, participate in code reviews, and work with senior team members to provide accurate development estimates.

What You'll Bring
  • Technical Foundation | 2+ years of hands-on backend software development experience focused on API development, C#, and relational databases.
  • Modern .NET & C# | Solid working knowledge of C# and modern .NET frameworks (with a focus on staying current with modern Microsoft releases like .NET 8/10).
  • Architecture & Messaging | Familiarity with microservice concepts, RESTful API design, database structures, and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Intellectual Curiosity & Problem-Solving | A natural drive to dig into complex systems, understand how things work at a fundamental level, and continuously learn new technologies and engineering practices.
  • Integration Range | Adaptability working across integration technologies spanning different framework generations as system requirements dictate.
  • Containerization Readiness | Exposure to or interest in container technologies (e.g., Docker) and learning containerized deployment pipelines.
  • Modern SDLC & Tooling | Practical understanding of standard software engineering practices, including Git, automated unit testing, CI/CD, and developer productivity tools.
  • Domain Experience (Nice to Have) | Prior experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance or financial systems is a plus, but strong backend coding fundamentals come first.
