What are Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers?

Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers are professionals who design, build, and maintain the core systems and services that support an organization's IT infrastructure, all while working remotely. They focus on ensuring that networks, servers, cloud environments, and related software are secure, scalable, and reliable. Their responsibilities may include automating deployment processes, managing cloud resources, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues. By working remotely, they leverage various collaboration tools to communicate with teams and manage critical infrastructure from anywhere.

How does a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a distributed work environment?

Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers regularly work with DevOps, security, and development teams to ensure that infrastructure solutions are reliable and scalable. Collaboration often happens through daily stand-ups, code reviews, and shared documentation platforms, making strong communication skills essential. Tools like Slack, Jira, and Zoom are commonly used to bridge the distance and keep projects aligned. Successfully navigating time zone differences and asynchronous communication is a key part of the role, requiring proactive updates and flexibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer, you need a strong background in software engineering, computer networking, and distributed systems, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), infrastructure-as-code tools (like Terraform or Ansible), and CI/CD systems is essential, along with relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills are crucial for collaborating effectively across distributed teams and handling complex remote projects. Job description

Lavendo partners with startups and highโ€‘growth companies to help them hire topโ€‘tier sales, GTM, and technical talent. This role is with one of our clients; weโ€™ll share full details about the company and interview process as we get to know you and confirm mutual fit.

About the Company

Our client builds the infrastructure powering how the world's best engineering teams use AI. Their open-source AI Gateway is already trusted by Adobe, Netflix, Nvidia, and NASA โ€” letting developers route 100+ LLM APIs through a single interface with cost tracking, guardrails, load balancing, and logging built in.

They're YC-backed, $10M+ ARR, ~10 people, and just getting started.

The Mission

Make LLM infrastructure simple and scalable for every engineering team on the planet โ€” from scrappy startups to the world's largest enterprises.

The Opportunity

You'll be the first dedicated Solutions Architect/Sales Engineer on a rocket ship โ€” owning the full technical sales motion alongside AEs, with direct access to founders and product. The companies you'll be selling to already know the product. Your job is to show them exactly how to make it work for them โ€” and close.

If you've spent years learning how to sell developer tools to engineers โ€” and you're ready to do it somewhere the stakes actually matter โ€” this is that role.

What You'll Do
  • Own technical demos for enterprise prospects alongside AEs โ€” running them daily at high volume

  • Be the go-to technical expert on every customer call: architecture questions, integration scoping, platform positioning

  • Manage ~50 active opportunities at once across a fast, no-nonsense sales cycle

  • Help customers get live โ€” supporting post-sales onboarding on AI Gateway architecture for production (primarily pre-sales focused)

  • Feed customer insights directly back to the product and engineering teams โ€” your voice shapes the roadmap

What You Bring

Must-Haves:

  • 3+ years in a technical, customer-facing sales role โ€” Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, or Technical Consultant

  • You've demoed developer tools (think: Datadog, Twilio, Snowflake) to enterprise engineering teams and closed deals

  • You sell to engineers โ€” not just around them

  • Python-proficient enough to run live demos and field architecture questions solo, no engineering support needed

  • BS in a technical field from a US university

  • You don't need structure to perform โ€” you create it

Bonus Points:

  • Rust experience

  • CS degree

  • Hands-on familiarity with AI/ML infra, LLM APIs, or cloud platforms

Key Success Drivers
  • You move fast โ€” 50 open opps doesn't intimidate you, it energizes you

  • Engineers trust you โ€” you earn credibility in the first 5 minutes of a call

  • You figure things out โ€” no playbook? No problem. You write it

  • You care about the customer โ€” not just the close

  • You're built for early-stage โ€” ambiguity is your advantage, not your obstacle

Why Join?
  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ Base $150Kโ€“$220K | OTE $200Kโ€“$275K, uncapped commission + competitive equity

  • ๐Ÿฅ Top-tier medical, dental, and vision coverage, including FSA

  • ๐Ÿš€ First SE/SA hire at a $10M+ ARR, YC-backed company โ€” with a product engineers already love

  • ๐Ÿ”ฅ Sell to the most exciting engineering teams in the world (Adobe, Netflix, Nvidia, NASA โ€” and many more)

  • ๐Ÿ›  Your feedback directly shapes the product roadmap

  • ๐Ÿ“ˆ Join early. Grow fast. Build something that matters

  • ๐Ÿ“ Remote in the US or on-site in San Francisco, CA | Visa transfers accepted โ€” no new sponsorships

Interviewing Process
  1. Intro Call โ€” Brief culture and background screen

  2. Sales Screen โ€” Deeper dive into your sales experience, demo skills, and enterprise customer engagement

  3. Technical Screen โ€” Assessment of your Python proficiency, architecture knowledge, and ability to handle technical customer questions

  4. On-Site โ€” Full Day in San Francisco โ€” Meet the team, experience the environment firsthand, and demonstrate how you'd operate day-to-day. This is where culture fit, hustle, and autonomy are evaluated directly.

  5. Offer

We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, genetic information, veteran or military status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Compensation Range: $200K - $275K
