Role Overview

The Senior Certification Engineer will provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert on new development projects. This includes civil regulations (RTCA/DO-254, DO-178C, and/or ARP4754A, Advisory Circulars, Issue Papers, CRIs, CFR, CS, CAR, CAAC, etc.) involving Intellectual Property, commercial integrated devices, commercial subassemblies, and circuit board assemblies. GE Aerospace's Systems business comprises a wide cross-section of aviation products, including power generation, power distribution, navigation, cockpit displays, computing and networking, ignition systems, sensors, and propellers. We support civil and military customers worldwide and are leading the way in hybrid-electric aircraft technologies and open platform solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead programs in determining product certification strategy and certification basis.
  • Lead compliance planning and determination of means of compliance.
  • Interpret aircraft regulatory material and determine project impact.
  • Audit project / product artifacts and verification activities to assess compliance with the certification basis.
  • Champion minimum effort solutions for meeting civil compliance.
  • Assess changes to approved/certified products to determine minor or major classification.
  • Provide technical leadership and technical direction for assigned organizational responsibilities, programs, and personnel including approval/sign-off of Certification documentation.
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Travel 10% or more (domestic and international)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with software development and/or hardware development and/or systems development
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with RTCA/DO-254 and/or DO-178B/C and/or ARP4754A
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • 10+ years of direct design experience with ASIC, FPGA, and CPLD technologies
  • 10+ years of experience with regulatory compliance related to RTCA/DO-254, DO-178B/C, and ARP4754A in safety-critical applications, including a strong understanding of the differences between RTCA/DO-178 and RTCA/DO-254 practices
  • Direct DER and/or ODA unit member experience
  • Strong oral and communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
