Cyber Security Engineer
The Opportunity:
Are you looking for an opportunity to advance your experience in cyber security, networking, and systems engineering that will support the United States Army? As a systems security and network security engineer, you can identify the cyber posture needed to assess vulnerabilities and recommend the best solution and security strategy. We need your experience to develop and implement security solutions that will allow our armed forces to administer modern technologies on tactical and deployed systems in a way that is safe, secure, and hardened while still allowing the overwhelming efficiency that is required for mission success.
On our team, you'll troubleshoot and analyze complex challenges for customers using your knowledge of network and cyber security best practices, as well as tools and scripting techniques to automate tasks and improve efficiencies. You'll use your curiosity for technology and market trends to further research and develop security solutions. Using your experience primarily in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, you'll help assess security threats and implement infrastructure controls. You'll work with multiple Program Executive Offices (PEO) within the Army to design and maintain a reliable cyber posture across a number of systems that are deployed in classified and unclassified environments. You'll collaborate with highly skilled systems engineers, software developers, and cybersecurity experts to learn the strategic goals and operational needs of our clients. You'll then share your expertise during the planning of acquisition, installation, and configuration of Army systems that must maintain an Authority to Operate (ATO) via the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process.
In this role, you'll closely impact the mission's areas by assessing mission objectives and providing cyber security solutions that coincide with mission parameters. With mentoring, challenging hands-on problem-solving, and opportunities to learn new tools and skills, we focus on growing as a team to make the best solutions for our customers.

What You'll Work On:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
  • Apply system updates, patches and configuration changes to maintain cyber posture.
  • Write and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures and troubleshooting guides.
  • Conduct Nessus Scans for vulnerability assessments monthly and submit reports of findings.
  • Apply Secure Technical Implementation Guides to RHEL and Windows systems and document all configuration changes.
  • Manage system licensing and registering system on Red Hat customer portal.
  • Install and configure Linux based applications and software such as NGINX, MediaMTX, and Redis DB.

You Have:
  • Experience as a Linux Systems Engineer or Administrator
  • Experience with RHEL-8 and 9
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Hypervisor, and KVM
  • Experience with shell scripting and automation such as Bash, Python, and Ansible
  • Knowledge of changes in RHEL-10
  • Knowledge of system hardening and security best practices, and networking concepts including IPv4, SSH, and Firewalls
  • Knowledge of monitoring and cyber security tools including ACAS Security Center, Evaluate STIG, STIG Viewer, and Nessus Scanner
  • Knowledge of containerization such as Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes
  • Secret clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
  • Experience with threat intelligence platforms and incident response frameworks
  • Bachelor's degree in science
  • Red Hat Engineer Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $69,400.00 to $158,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
