Remote Iam Engineer information

What is a remote IAM engineer?

A Remote IAM (Identity and Access Management) Engineer is a cybersecurity professional who designs, implements, and manages systems that control user access to digital resources, all while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities include configuring authentication and authorization solutions, integrating identity services, and ensuring compliance with security policies. They often work with tools such as Active Directory, Okta, or Azure AD, and collaborate with IT teams to protect sensitive data and maintain secure access for users. Remote IAM Engineers play a crucial role in safeguarding organizational assets, especially in distributed or cloud-based environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote IAM engineer?

To thrive as a Remote IAM Engineer, you need a deep understanding of identity and access management concepts, authentication protocols (such as SAML, OAuth, and LDAP), and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with IAM platforms like Okta, Ping Identity, or Microsoft Azure AD, along with relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CIAM), is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication make someone stand out in this role. These skills are vital to securely managing user access, protecting organizational data, and ensuring seamless collaboration in distributed work environments.

What are some common challenges a remote IAM engineer faces when troubleshooting identity and access management issues across distributed teams?

As a Remote IAM Engineer, one frequent challenge is diagnosing access issues that arise due to inconsistent configurations across different environments or cloud platforms. Collaborating with distributed teams can also make communication about security policies and urgent incidents more complex, requiring clear documentation and proactive outreach. Additionally, ensuring secure remote access while maintaining compliance with organizational policies can be demanding, as it involves balancing user convenience with robust security controls. Adapting to new tools for remote troubleshooting and building strong relationships with security and IT teams are key to overcoming these challenges.

What is the difference between Remote Iam Engineer vs Remote Cloud Security Engineer?

Remote Iam Engineers focus on managing identity and access within cloud platforms, ensuring secure user authentication and permissions. Remote Cloud Security Engineers have a broader role, encompassing overall cloud security measures, including IAM but also network security, threat detection, and compliance. While both roles work in cloud environments, IAM Engineers specialize in identity management, whereas Cloud Security Engineers oversee comprehensive security strategies.

Axiom Cloud is transforming how the world's cooling systems are powered, operated, and maintained; generating significant climate and financial impact.
We are looking for a Software Engineer who wants to work at the intersection of IoT, cloud infrastructure, and real-world energy systems; and who thrives building software that matters.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will work directly with the engineering team on the following strategic initiatives:
  • Build, improve, and maintain an ecosystem of software services and APIs that manage a fleet of flexible, intelligent, and resilient assets; from the cloud to the IoT edge.
  • Collaborate with hardware, controls, modeling, and data science teams to develop innovative, AI-enabled products.
  • Engineer reliability and scale into our multi-tenant microservices stack, scaling from handfuls to thousands of customer sites.
  • Contribute to cloud-native deployment practices across our production environment.
  • Reduce technical debt by addressing existing shortcuts and setting a higher bar for new feature development.
  • Build and orchestrate AI Agents to accelerate team productivity and deliver customer value.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain quality and foster knowledge sharing.
  • Improve internal tooling and documentation to make the development experience more accessible.
  • Develop full-stack features that connect backend services to user-facing interfaces.

WHO YOU ARE
A general guide - we can bend these rules for an exceptional candidate.
  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong software design instincts; comfortable across object-oriented and functional paradigms.
  • Motivated to contribute across the full stack, from strategy and architecture to coding, testing, and production operations.
  • Quick to pick up new technologies and development methodologies.
  • A self-directed problem-solver who generates innovative solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Passionate about technology innovation, product development, and commercial/industrial SaaS.

KEY SKILLS & TECHNOLOGIES
Cloud & Networking
Strong fundamentals in GCP (or AWS): VPC design, shared VPC, HA VPN, Cloud Interconnect, Cloud NAT, BGP routing, and Private Service Connect.
Kubernetes & Compute
Production experience with GKE or EKS, including workload identity, autoscaling, and multi-cluster patterns.
Infrastructure as Code
Modular, reusable Terraform with remote state management.
CI/CD
Pipeline-driven delivery for infrastructure and application workloads via GitHub Actions or similar.
Auth & Identity
Workforce Identity Federation, OIDC/SAML with Okta, IAM design, and service-to-service authentication.
Security
Least-privilege IAM, network segmentation, encryption (CMEK/GMEK, KMS), and secrets management.
Python
Solid working proficiency for tooling, automation, and platform services.
Data & Lakehouse
Hands-on with Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) or comparable platforms; strong schema design for large-scale timeseries and relational workloads.
Performance Optimization
Proven ability to tune queries, indexes, and pipelines against billion-row datasets.
Agentic AI & Generative AI / LLMs
Experience with Agentic AI, prompt engineering and RAG systems (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face).
Debugging
Systematic root-cause analysis across distributed cloud systems, especially in networking and connectivity.
Frontend
Working familiarity with React or similar for internal tools and platform dashboards.
WHY JOIN US
  • Work directly on mission-critical infrastructure that drives real climate impact.
  • Fully remote position with working hours generally aligned to Pacific Time.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package, including equity (stock options).
  • Honor system PTO policy (no specified limits) and paid parental leave.
  • Two company-wide weeks off per year (December and July).
  • Collaborative, growth-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on professional development.
  • Chance to make a measurable impact at an innovative enterprise SaaS company transforming the cold chain industry.
