Description
Summary/Objective:
This position provides a variety of laundry attending, cleaning services, and other related duties required to keep remote industrial housing facilities, food service areas, office facilities, or similar areas in a clean and orderly condition. Works under direction of the Head Cook, performing in accordance with AC&SS mission, vision, and values; departmental policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Cleans areas such as sleeping rooms; according to an occupancy report
  • Clean and details closet spaces, tables, chairs, heaters in all rooms; above closet space and overhead lights; and bed boards
  • Cleans and sanitizes men's and women's bathrooms and laundry rooms; using proper cleaning techniques
  • Clean, sweep, wipe down, etc. all general areas or storage areas; spike rooms and equipment; all floors. Vacuum all occupied areas
  • Wash/Clean objects by hand or with cleaning equipment
  • Use appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks
  • Review various cleaning schedules to determine required duties
  • Remove and transport trash to appropriate disposal areas
  • Restock sleeping rooms and bathrooms, verifying that towels, sheets and blankets are available for each appropriate room
  • Promote, establish, and maintain a safe work environment for all employees and clients
  • Work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner
  • Provide quality customer service
  • Cleaning of indoor and/or outdoor smoking lounges
  • Remove linen, towels, and trash from various areas
  • Clean various types of other areas; such as general offices
  • Assist with various periodically schedule large cleaning projects
  • Willingness to work at various locations; as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) months general cleaning work experience; required
  • Previous remote site camp experience and/or related area; preferred

Certifications and/or Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a current and valid state operator's motor vehicle license and an acceptable driving record, per Company's insurance requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Abilities:
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively communicate with people in potentially stressful situations.
  • Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Must be very detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, if necessary or required.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, HIPAA and privacy laws and regulations.
  • Must have ability to work independently and be a self-starter as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to quickly and effectively problem solve and analyze situations.
  • Must have a technical capacity and knowledge with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and office equipment software and equipment (e.g., copiers, fax machines, postage meters, label makers, printers, etc.)
  • Must have an effective time management system and organizational skills.

Work Environment:
The employee will be required to live and work in a remote and confined workspace for extended periods of time; work assignments consisting of shifts up to four (4) weeks on/ two (2) weeks off schedule; 12 hour work day for a minimum of 14 days straight and able to work day or night shifts, as required. The majority of the work is performed in a remote setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Must be able to travel in all means of air and ground transportation commonly used in remote Alaska. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and solutions.
Travel:
Travel is required at remote work sites, including, but not limited to cold climate conditions, and as other business dictates.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and reaching.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to see objects far and near.
  • Must be able to lift, pull, and push at least 50 pounds of weight of various objects.
  • Must be able to bend and squat.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, 84 hours per week, with a break for lunch each day with the time varying depending on schedules for coverage.
