What you will do

Johnson Controls is hiring! We're seeking a Principal Simulation & Modeling Engineer that will perform computer modeling and simulation of Chiller Solutions components and systems. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and applying numerical models to simulate components and systems with the objective of predicting component and system performance accurately and efficiently. This position requires an understanding of the fundamentals of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and experience in object-oriented computer programming and simulation methods for components used in chiller products and systems.

This position is based onsite in New Freedom, PA, with the option for a U.S.-based remote arrangement for the right candidate.


How you will do it

  • Working with minimal direction, develops and applies computer program models to simulate chiller components and systems.

  • Develops component models and applies component models developed by others.

  • Develops steady-state and multifaceted simulation models of thermal components and systems based on first principles and test data

  • Participates as a member of a project team to ensure projects are completed according to schedule.

  • Collects, analyzes and interprets test data. Analyzes product performance and adjusts models as appropriate.

  • Provides models that can be used for product design and optimization.

  • Provides direction to personnel in the establishment of chiller design choices and system trade-offs

  • Provides mentorship on rating and analysis tool development.

  • Develops innovative ideas to improve product performance and reduce cost.

What we look for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 4 years of experience in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer

  • Programming experience with a compiled software language (C# preferred, C++, C, Fortran)

  • Experience with testing and evaluation of results in an engineering laboratory environment

  • Experience with object-oriented programming (C# preferred, python, Modelica, object-oriented C++)

  • Machine Learning experience

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $130,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience,knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.)
