Position Overview

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive psychosocial support within the detox care environment at Keck Medical Center of USC. The LCSW will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes and support families through the recovery journey.

About the Organization

Keck Medical Center of USC is a leading healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to individuals facing acute medical challenges. With a multi-disciplinary approach, we strive to deliver holistic patient services, particularly in the field of addiction recovery at our detox center in San Bernardino, California. Our mission encompasses nurturing not only the physical health of our patients but also their emotional and social well-being.

Work Environment

This role is set within a remote working environment, enabling the LCSW to provide valuable social work services from the comfort of their home while still engaging closely with patients and team members. The detox center specifically handles acute cases of substance withdrawal, enabling an adaptable, compassionate response to patient needs. Utilizing advanced telecommunication tools, the LCSW will conduct assessments and interventions while contributing to a supportive team culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Psychosocial Assessment: Conduct timely assessments leveraging theoretical knowledge of human behavior and psychosocial factors impacting treatment outcomes.
  • Clinical Interventions: Provide supportive counseling to patients and families, facilitate family conferences, and assist families in navigating difficult decisions, such as hospice care or Do-Not-Resuscitate orders.
  • Triage and Case Management: Effectively manage a clinical caseload, recognizing high-risk situations, balancing referrals, and coordinating ongoing patient care.
  • Legal and Ethical Standards: Uphold legal and ethical standards in all clinical practices and assessments, including but not limited to abuse reporting and patient rights.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary documentation per policy, preserving an accurate record of care plans and progress notes.
  • In-Service Education: Conduct in-service training sessions for hospital staff on psychosocial issues relevant to patient care, enhancing staff knowledge and capabilities.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in the development and monitoring of quality improvement indicators to enhance patient care and service delivery.
  • Competency Maintenance: Stay updated with competencies for hospital and job-specific care standards, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Additional Duties: Engage in activities to promote social work awareness, such as organizing Cancer Support Groups, and facilitating educational programs for patients and families.
Patient Population / Client Focus

The LCSW will primarily serve patients undergoing detoxification processes, focusing on those struggling with substance use disorders. The role requires a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding addiction, not only from a clinical perspective but also considering the emotional and social aspects affecting patients and their families. Close collaboration with other healthcare professionals will be essential to ensure that both the emotional and physical needs of patients are addressed thoroughly.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a medical setting; experience in oncology or rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in both verbal and written English.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team dynamic.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in cancer support and treatment environments.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems specific to social work practices.
Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive annual salary range of $120,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a robust salary, employees will have access to comprehensive health benefits, retirement plans, generous paid time off, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Career Growth Opportunities

At Keck Medical Center, we are committed to fostering professional growth within our teams. The LCSW will have access to continuous education programs, mentorship opportunities, and pathways to advanced clinical certifications, allowing for career advancement towards specialized roles within social work or broader healthcare leadership positions.
