What is a remote human resources job?

A Remote Human Resources (HR) job involves managing HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and benefits administration from a remote location. HR professionals in remote roles use digital tools to communicate with employees, conduct virtual interviews, and oversee compliance with company policies. These roles require strong communication skills, organization, and familiarity with HR software. Remote HR jobs are ideal for companies with distributed teams or flexible work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote human resources?

To thrive as a Remote Human Resources professional, you need a strong understanding of HR principles, employment laws, recruitment strategies, and often a degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS), applicant tracking systems (ATS), and remote communication tools is essential, and certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR are highly valued. Excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and effective virtual communication are vital soft skills for building rapport and supporting a distributed workforce. These skills ensure that HR processes run smoothly, compliance is maintained, and employee engagement remains high even in a remote setting.

What are some common challenges faced by remote human resources professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Human Resources professionals often encounter challenges such as fostering team cohesion, communicating effectively across time zones, and maintaining employee engagement without in-person interaction. To address these issues, leveraging collaborative technologies, scheduling regular virtual check-ins, and creating clear communication guidelines are essential best practices. Additionally, developing strong digital onboarding processes and organizing virtual team-building activities can help bridge the gap for remote teams. HR professionals who proactively engage employees and support a strong remote culture contribute significantly to the overall productivity and morale of the organization.

Job description

You’re an HR professional looking for a great place to work.

We’re that place. A place where:

  • The work you do is valuable, interesting, and rewarding.
  • Your continued development as an HR Consultant is baked into our culture.
  • You are a respected member of a supportive, collaborative, connected, and integrated team of HR professionals.
  • You own strategic partnerships with small to mid-size Business Leaders where you are able to consistently make impactful differences.
  • You truly have a lifestyle job where “work/life balance” is achieved through flexible scheduling; hybrid work-from-home approximately 75% of scheduled hours; you control time off; and you can set targeted work hours.

We find that as Senior HR Professionals consider what they want from the rest of their career, they often seek an employment arrangement where they can use their experience in a way that enhances their feeling of purpose and affords them more control over their schedule

At FIT HR, we have developed a consulting model where these professionals can utilize their depth of experience in a creative way to serve small to mid-size organizations who only need a fractional, yet experienced HR leader. Pretty fantastic, right?!

For consideration, here is our wish list of qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional exempt-level HR experience
  • Proven HR business partner with strong coaching skills
  • Strong focus on process improvement, strategy, and HR automation
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Client-focused, a desire to partner with entrepreneurs, business owners and leaders
  • Experience working with start-ups or small businesses
  • Strong organizational, inter-personal, and multi-tasking skills
  • Comfort performing tactical to strategic HR
  • Ability to travel as needed in your local area
  • Ability and desire to network and implement strong relationships within the community is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • HRCI and/or SHRM certification preferred

More information on "remote" classification of our positions.  All Consulting positions with FIT HR will be a combination of working remotely from your home and approximately 20-25% of your time working onsite at your clients' location.  This balance of remote / onsite will vary by client assignment.

Out of State Applicants: Please note we will only be hiring candidates that will are or will be Washington Residents at this time.
