Job description

Apex's Rockies Division is expanding and is looking for an Environmental Compliance Scientist.  The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented and has the technical compliance skills needed to support projects. 

Your Responsibilities as an Environmental Compliance Scientist 3:

  • Collect groundwater samples for dewatering and baseline water quality.  
  • Support preparation of environmental permits and reports for projects, facilities, and operations for various clients.  
  • High degree of technical competency with completing baseline water quality sampling in Colorado and/or Wyoming. 
  • Familiarity with NPDES permitting in Colorado and/or Wyoming.  
  • Provide technical oversight and mentor scientific staff to ensure quality work products. Conduct water quality sampling and prepare environmental compliance reports and technical deliverables. 
  • Client interaction includes onsite and virtual client meetings.  
  • Strong track record of field work, proposal development and managing project deliverables, schedules and budgets.  
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and regulations and determine impact on client activities. 
  • Define and develop your own professional growth with mentoring from project managers. 
  • Flexible working conditions. In office, hybrid or remote. Occasional office meetings. 

What we're looking for:

  • BS in chemical, environmental or civil engineering, geology, environmental science, or another related field. 
  • 4+ years of environmental consulting or industry experience.  
  • Adept at conducting baseline water quality and dewatering sampling following Colorado and Wyoming guidelines.   
  • Proficient at independently researching, reviewing, and guiding compliance with environmental regulations at a federal, state and local level; including NPDES & discharge permitting. 
  • Experience with water sampling for groundwater and/or surface water. 
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems while maintaining quality and manage your own time.  
  • Strong communication skills, and collaborative work ethic.  
  • Strong safety awareness, and an understanding of safe work practices. 
  • Excellent writing and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite are required.  
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving history are required.  
  • Experience supporting clients with Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) regulatory compliance
