Job description

Overview

We are designing the Grid of the future!

EPE is looking for a Principal with a background in Interconnection or Transmission Planning studies preferably in the MISO, SPP or SERC regions. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact

Perform complex interconnection studies including load flow, short circuit and transient stability across multiple ISOs and Utilities in the Eastern Interconnect, ideally focusing on MISO, SPP and SERC.

Review ISO and/or Utility interconnection study results, replicate findings and identify errors or alternative mitigations that could impact assigned network upgrades.

Support generation, large load and merchant transmission developers navigate interconnection processes across the Eastern Interconnect.

Serve as a subject matter expert on interconnection related studies and stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes.

Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided.

Develop net new and enhance existing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies.

Support the development of new products and services

ย  Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation under experience (bring your passion section.ย 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what's needed:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
  • Experience in IBR modelling, transmission planning and/or interconnection studies.
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages: PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld. ASPEN and PSCAD
  • Experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation

  • Active participation in industry taskforces and/or working group. ย 

Beneficial Experience:

  • Direct experience working at an ISO/Utility or on behalf of these entities as a consultant.
  • Experience with large load interconnection studies would be considered a big plus.
  • Experience with DER interconnection or studies would be considered a plus.
  • Experience with production cost modelling would be considered a plus.
  • Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL) would be considered a plus.
