Healthcare Counsel Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Counsel โ€“ Healthcare to join a highly respected California-based law firm with a sophisticated healthcare practice. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced attorney with a strong background advising hospitals, medical staffs, and healthcare organizations on complex regulatory, governance, and peer review matters.

This role can be based in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, or Orange County.

Responsibilities
  • Advise hospital medical staffs, healthcare executives, and institutional stakeholders on governance, credentialing, peer review, and bylaws compliance matters
  • Counsel clients on healthcare regulatory and administrative issues impacting medical staff operations
  • Draft and revise bylaws, policies, governance documents, and related agreements
  • Support and manage medical staff hearings, investigations, and related proceedings
  • Handle disputes and litigation involving credentialing, peer review, and professional licensing matters
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, executives, and healthcare leadership to provide strategic, practical legal guidance
  • Analyze complex legal and operational issues while maintaining professionalism, discretion, and responsiveness
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience practicing healthcare law or a related field
  • Strong experience in healthcare regulatory matters, litigation, administrative law, employment law, professional licensing, or complex counseling work
  • Prior experience with medical staff law, peer review, credentialing, or hospital governance strongly preferred
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
