This position has an initial appointment ofย 1 year, with the possibility of extension.

Location - This role can be either hybrid or fully remote.

The Real World Evidence Unit, within the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, conducts high-quality, decision-grade research using real world health system data to answer questions that matter to health system decision makers, clinicians, patients, and industry partners.ย 

We are a core member of the Alberta Real World Evidence Consortium (ARWEC) and the Alberta Drug and Technology Evaluation Consortium (ADTEC), collaborating with provincial and national partners to ensure that health decisions are grounded in robust, real-world evidence.

The Real World Evidence Unit is seeking a proactive, collaborative, and analytically driven Health Economist to join our growing team of health researchers dedicated to generating evidence to inform healthcare decision-making.

This role sits at the intersection of health economics, real-world data, and policy impact. You will lead economic evaluations and applied research studies using real-world health system data to inform clinical, policy, and funding decisions across Alberta and beyond.

Education & Experience

  • MSc in Health Economics, Economics, Epidemiology, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in health economics, health services research, or real-world evidence research; PhD considered an asset.ย 
  • Demonstrated expertise in health economic evaluation, including costing analyses, cost-effectiveness analysis, budget impact analysis, and the use of real-world data to support healthcare decision-making.ย 
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder research projects.ย 
  • Experience working with administrative or clinical data and familiarity with data access and data governance processes.ย 
  • Strong scientific writing skills and demonstrated experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, reimbursement submissions, or policy documents.ย 

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative research methods, study design, and health economic methodologies.ย 
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting large real-world healthcare datasets.ย 
  • Proficient writing, communication, and presentation skills.ย 
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organization and project management abilities.ย 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software (R, SAS, STATA); experience with health economic modelling is an asset.ย 
  • Proven ability to lead through collaboration, influence, and respect.ย 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research and policy environments.
