• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments of students and their families to evaluate emotional, social, and environmental factors affecting their well-being.
• Develop and implement tailored treatment plans using a variety of therapeutic modalities to address the unique needs of students dealing with mental health issues.
• Collaborate with educators, administrators, and mental health professionals to create a holistic support system for students.
• Facilitate effective discharge planning and transitions for students returning to school after hospitalization or treatment, ensuring their needs are met upon reintegration.
• Communicate and educate parents and families about coping strategies and resources available to support their children’s emotional and social development.
• Manage crisis situations by employing crisis intervention strategies and stabilizing students who are experiencing acute distress.
• Participate in on-call rotation to address emergency mental health needs outside regular hours.
• Deliver professional education sessions to school staff about mental health awareness, identifying at-risk students, and best practices for fostering a supportive school environment.
• Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and additional training relevant to psychosocial oncology and other specialized areas.
• Contribute to community outreach efforts, promoting available resources and support programs for family members of cancer survivors and other at-risk populations.

This position specifically focuses on supporting children and adolescents within a school setting. The LCSW will address a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment disorders. Understanding the unique challenges faced by students, especially in the context of education and family dynamics, is essential for delivering effective assistance. The LCSW will also liaise with parents and caregivers to ensure comprehensive care for the child.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) designation in the state of California.
• Strong understanding of therapeutic modalities and mental health interventions applicable to children and families.
• Experience working within educational or community settings is preferable.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Experience working with youth in school or clinical settings.
• Knowledge of resources available within the Long Beach area related to mental health and community support services.
• Proficiency in evidence-based practices for mental health treatment.
