What are the best companies for remote design?

For remote graphic designing roles, companies like Adobe, Canva, and Upwork are known for offering remote opportunities. These companies often prioritize strong design skills, proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to work independently in a flexible schedule.

Is AI replacing graphic designers?

AI tools are increasingly used in graphic design to automate repetitive tasks and generate ideas, but they do not fully replace graphic designers. Skilled designers are still needed for creative direction, complex projects, and client collaboration, making AI a complement rather than a substitute in the field.

How do remote graphic designers typically collaborate with clients and team members to ensure project success?

Remote graphic designers often rely on digital collaboration tools like Slack, Trello, or Asana to communicate with clients and team members. Regular video meetings and clear project briefs help ensure everyone is aligned on goals, timelines, and feedback. File-sharing platforms such as Google Drive or Adobe Creative Cloud make it easy to share drafts and gather input. Proactive communication and strong organizational skills are essential to manage revisions and keep projects on track, even when working across different time zones.

Job description

Tucows Domains is the world's largest wholesale domain registrar, responsible for maintaining the health, neutrality, and openness of an important—but largely invisible part of the Internet: the domain name system (DNS).

As part of Tucows—one of the world's largest Internet companies—Tucows Domains has a rich history of helping make the Internet better, operating globally under the Ascio, Enom, Hover and OpenSRS brands.

We embrace a people-first philosophy that is rooted in respect, trust, and flexibility. We believe that whatever works for our employees is what works best for us. It's also why the majority of our roles are remote-first, meaning you can work from anywhere you can connect to the Internet! Today, over one thousand people from over 20 countries are part of our team.

If this sounds exciting to you, join the herd!

About the Opportunity

We are redefining what an in-house agency is and are looking for a graphic designer to join the Herd. As an individual contributor within our marketing organization, your primary responsibilities will involve crafting visually appealing content and shaping the brand identity that supports our marketing efforts within the Domain Services line of business. This will include creating digital graphics, emails, newsletters, display channel ads, social posts, video content, and promotional materials that resonate with our audience and enhance our brand presence.

This is a completely remote opportunity within the Greater Toronto Area with the expectation of attending onsite meetings, functions, and/or events upon request.

Job Duties

The role involves collaborating with marketing team members and peers across the business, including sales, product management, and partners, to deliver quality designs. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Partner on the development and ongoing evolution of a comprehensive brand book, documenting visual identity standards and usage guidelines for internal and external use.
  • Conceptualize, create, and refine marketing campaigns and brand assets, digital and social assets, and more.
  • Proactively research, test, and leverage emerging AI design tools, identifying opportunities to improve team efficiency and creative output
  • Design requests for proposal (RFPs) to secure new business and presentation decks for business leaders.
  • Create swag and design event collateral (banners, booth kits, conference signage, etc.).
  • Develop video content, including sizzle reels, teaser videos, tutorials, and how-to demos.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with product, design, business development, and marketing teams on brand-building and marketing campaigns, ensuring design and business objectives work seamlessly together.
  • Effectively rationalize and communicate ideas and designs to key stakeholders and senior business leaders.
  • Knowledge of print and digital design standards and specifications.
  • Manage print files and liaise with external printers and vendors.
  • Create accessible designs that comply with W3C and AODA.
Qualifications Required
  • 3-5 years of experience as a graphic or visual designer at an advertising agency or in-house design team.
  • Possess a certificate, degree, or diploma in graphic design or a related field.
  • Provide a portfolio that demonstrates your design skills and conceptual thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability leading the creative ideation process, from concept development through to execution.
  • Experience contributing to brand development or brand evolution, with a strong understanding of how visual identity systems work across touchpoints.
  • Display strong aesthetic skills and demonstrate a solid understanding of graphic design's core principles, including typography, layout/composition, grid systems, color, photography, iconography, etc.
  • Experience in video creation (simple animation, motion graphics, storyboarding, prototyping, etc.).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, After Effects, and similar tools.
  • Be adept at working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

The base salary range for this position is $69,030 - $76,700. Range shown in $CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ.
