Job description

Work Flexibility: Remote or Hybrid or Onsite
*While this role is remote, there is a preference to candidates that reside near our Fort Wayne (IN), Portage (MI), or San Jose (CA) offices.
This role serves as the business and product leader for Workflow Engine and related integration technologies, partnering closely with customers, engineering, architecture, UX, sales, and operations teams to bring innovative solutions to market. The Portfolio Manager will identify unmet customer needs, evaluate market opportunities, and develop strategies that enable healthcare organizations to seamlessly connect systems, automate workflows, and unlock greater value from the SmartCare platform.
Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
  • Define and communicate the strategic vision, roadmap, and investment priorities for Workflow Engine and SmartCare integration capabilities.
  • Develop multi-year product strategies aligned with customer needs, market opportunities, business objectives, and platform architecture.
  • Balance customer value, technical feasibility, scalability, security, interoperability, and commercial objectives when prioritizing product investments.
  • Ensure alignment across engineering, architecture, portfolio management, commercial teams, and executive stakeholders around common goals and priorities.
  • Lead portfolio planning activities, including business case development, investment recommendations, roadmap prioritization, and lifecycle management.
  • Partner closely with Solution Architecture and Engineering teams to translate strategy into execution.

Innovation & Market Opportunity Development
  • Identify emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovation opportunities related to middleware, APIs, workflow automation, interoperability, orchestration, cloud platforms, and digital health ecosystems.
  • Evaluate market opportunities and recommend strategic investments that strengthen SmartCare's competitive position.
  • Challenge conventional thinking and champion innovative solutions that solve complex healthcare workflow challenges.
  • Anticipate future market needs and proactively develop strategies to address evolving healthcare technology landscapes.
  • Drive "art of the possible" thinking to identify new ways workflow automation and integrations can deliver customer and business value.

Customer & Market Insights
  • Develop deep expertise in healthcare workflows, integration challenges, interoperability requirements, and customer operational needs.
  • Engage directly with customers, health systems, implementation teams, and key opinion leaders to understand unmet needs and validate product direction.
  • Translate customer feedback into actionable product requirements and strategic recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key customers, partners, and industry experts to inform future roadmap decisions.
  • Become a trusted source of market and customer insights for the broader SmartCare organization.

Product Development & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead product discovery efforts and define market requirements for new capabilities and enhancements.
  • Partner with Engineering, UX, Clinical Portfolio Management, Program Management, and Operations teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Define product requirements, success metrics, and value propositions for new initiatives.
  • Lead the product planning process from ideation through launch and post-market optimization.
  • Influence product development decisions through data, customer insights, market intelligence, and business analysis.
  • Ensure product strategies consider scalability, deployment, supportability, observability, security, and integration requirements.

Ecosystem, Integrations & Platform Expansion
  • Define the strategy for internal and external integrations across the SmartCare ecosystem.
  • Evaluate partnership opportunities that expand platform capabilities and customer value.
  • Promote reusable, scalable integration frameworks and approaches that accelerate adoption and reduce implementation complexity.
  • Collaborate with platform, middleware, device, and application teams to deliver cohesive, end-to-end customer solutions.
  • Develop strategies that enable seamless interoperability across healthcare applications, devices, and technology ecosystems.

Competitive & Industry Intelligence
  • Monitor competitive offerings, technology trends, emerging standards, and market disruptions.
  • Analyze competitive strengths, weaknesses, market positioning, and innovation investments.
  • Assess industry developments related to interoperability, workflow automation, AI-enabled workflows, cloud infrastructure, and digital health platforms.
  • Translate competitive intelligence into actionable recommendations that influence product strategy and roadmap priorities.
  • Educate stakeholders on market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive threats.

Business Performance & Analytics
  • Develop and maintain business cases, financial models, product forecasts, and investment recommendations.
  • Define key performance indicators and success metrics for the portfolio.
  • Monitor product adoption, utilization, customer satisfaction, commercial performance, and market outcomes.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify growth opportunities and support strategic decision-making.
  • Communicate portfolio performance and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Demonstrate strong financial and business acumen when evaluating opportunities and prioritizing investments.

Leadership & Influence
  • Build strong partnerships across business functions and organizational boundaries.
  • Influence decisions and drive alignment without direct authority.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to the development of product management best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with technical, clinical, commercial, and executive audiences.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, customer-centricity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a recognized subject matter expert in workflow automation, integrations, and platform strategy.

What you need (required):
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • 6+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in Product Management/Portfolio Management for Enterprise Software, Healthcare Technology, Digital Health, Platform Products, Middleware, or related fields.
  • Experience owning product strategy and roadmaps for software, platform, middleware, API, integration, or workflow automation products.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes, cloud architectures, APIs, integration technologies, and interoperability concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities and convert customer needs into successful product strategies.
  • Healthcare IT, interoperability, FHIR, HL7, clinical workflow, or digital health experience preferred.
  • Experience with middleware, workflow orchestration, enterprise integration platforms, or connected ecosystem products strongly preferred.

Preferred:
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • USN: $102,600 - $171,000 USD Annual
  • US5: $107,700 - $179,600 USD Annual
  • US10: $112,900 - $188,100 USD Annual
  • US15: $118,000 - $196,600 USD Annual
  • US20: $123,100 - $205,200 USD Annual
  • US30: $133,400 - $222,300 USD Annual
