Join the legal frontline and champion the defense for both the insured and the Company! As an Early Career Trial Attorney, you’ll handle bodily injury, property damage lawsuits, and more with arbitrations, mediations, and occasional trials. Beyond the courtroom, you’ll provide vital counsel to business clients and coordinate between legal teams. Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions to ensure favorable outcomes for clients. 

  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for cases, including preparation for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions. 

  • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports. 

  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents. 

  • Interview clients and witnesses, as well as drafting summaries of their statements and maintaining communication records. 

  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings to observe and assist as needed; may represent the company or clients in routine matters. 

  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations, and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases. 

  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work

  • Provide legal opinions to claims clients 

  • Conducts depositions and examinations under oath and prepares summary documents  

Education 

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.  

Minimum Requirements 

  • Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis, demonstrating the ability to conduct thorough legal research and draft clear, well-structured legal documents. 

  • Demonstrates strong time management skills, effectively balancing multiple tasks and deadlines. 

  • Capable of organizing case files, managing legal documents, and understanding the discovery process. 

  • Skilled in communicating with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of interactions. 

  • Well-versed in legal ethics and the standards of professional conduct. 

  • Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions. 

  • Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, TeamConnect, internet research tools, and other legal case management software

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 70,100.00 - 121,475.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
