Remote Game Design Teacher information

What does a remote game design teacher do?

A Remote Game Design Teacher instructs students in the principles and techniques of game design, typically through online platforms. They create lesson plans, teach concepts like storytelling, mechanics, and software tools, and guide students in developing their own games. These educators also provide feedback, assess student projects, and may teach both beginners and more advanced students. Working remotely allows them to connect with learners from different locations while leveraging digital tools for collaboration and instruction.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote game design teacher?

To thrive as a Remote Game Design Teacher, you need a solid background in game design principles, teaching experience, and typically a degree in game design or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Unity or Unreal Engine, as well as learning management systems (LMS), is important for creating engaging curricula and delivering lessons online. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability are essential soft skills for effectively instructing and motivating students in a virtual environment. These skills ensure students receive high-quality instruction, remain engaged, and successfully develop their game design abilities remotely.

What are common challenges remote game design teachers face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Game Design Teachers often encounter challenges such as engaging students in a virtual setting and facilitating effective collaboration during group projects. To overcome these obstacles, they can incorporate interactive tools like game engines with collaborative features, utilize breakout rooms for teamwork, and establish clear communication channels. Providing timely feedback and fostering an inclusive online classroom culture also help maintain student motivation and participation. Additionally, staying up to date with the latest industry tools and remote teaching strategies can make the learning experience more dynamic and rewarding.

At ARRISE, we know a thing or two about making great games. From concept to execution, we combine creativity with technical excellence to shape the future of player engagement, driving our business and industry forward.
Our teams plan, prepare, and produce every title in a packed multi-product roadmap, having created over 1,800 slots to date. Game artists, developers, mathematicians, sound technicians, product marketers, regulatory experts, and other stakeholders from across the business all work together on delivering new player favorites at scale and pace.
ARRISE USA represents our growing footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic tech and entertainment markets. With a remote team of product experts, we’re tapping into American talent to drive the next generation of iGaming innovation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re building a brand-new, US-based, fully remote game studio developing new slot games, and we’re looking for an experienced Game Designer to drive the vision for our games.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with a small multidisciplinary team to lead the creation of new games from the ground up with a strong focus on delivering standout themes and high-performing mechanics.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
  • Define and deliver the overall game vision, including game mechanics, play style, and theme
  • Collaborate closely with mathematicians, artists, animators, and sound designers to bring your game to life
  • Playtest and iterate on your game’s math, mechanics, game flow, and visual presentation with an eye toward creating the best player experience possible
  • Produce and maintain clear design documentation for your game
  • Collaborate with other game designers to provide gameplay feedback and recommendations for improvement on each other’s games
  • Regularly play competitors’ games in the iGaming and land-based spaces to stay abreast of industry trends and new mechanics
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
  • 5+ years of experience designing real-money slot games for iGaming or land-based markets
  • Degree in Mathematics, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate complex and creative concepts to stakeholders across the globe
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging game mechanics, and player expectations
  • Familiarity with wireframing software such as Figma or Balsamiq
  • You should:
    • Be able to move comfortably between strategic and detailed levels
    • Bring strong organization and structure to a fast-moving environment
    • Be extremely creative, designing experiences that are intuitive and fun
    • Obsess over detail and refinement
    • Provide, accept, and act on feedback constructively
