Job description

Who We Are: Mursion provides an award-winning upskilling platform trusted by top companies to measurably improve employees' interpersonal intelligence and build stronger organizations. Powered by multimodal AI and a unique practice-based approach, our real-world, interactive simulations deliver lasting results. Our solutions are grounded in behavioral science and psychology to build confidence and competence, and ultimately help reduce the costs of stress and skills gaps. Mursion's product suite includes human-powered simulations, AI-powered simulations, coaching, and advanced analytics that lead to measurable skills acquisition.
Mursion is a well-funded Series B startup that is backed by future of work and Edtech investing veterans, like Leeds Illuminate and New Markets Venture Partners. Mursion is the largest simulation company, with more than 800K+ simulations to date and more than 200K users per year, with a growing global footprint.
Who We Want: We are looking for people who are serious about developing the specialized craft of Mursion simulation design. This is not a traditional writing, instructional design, game design, or prompt-writing role. Mursion Content Designers create dynamic, true-to-life practice experiences that help people build and demonstrate behavioral skills in complex real-world conversations. That requires more than strong writing: it requires understanding human behavior, workplace dynamics, communication, relationships, power, emotion, and the ways people actually speak and respond under pressure---in various industries and contexts. Successful Content Designers are able to understand the real context of a simulation, identify the skills most essential for navigating that real-world challenge and the common pitfalls of the target audience, and translate that understanding into interactions that feel authentic, flexible, and instructionally meaningful.
The people who thrive on this team are curious, rigorous, detail-oriented, and highly self-directed. They love learning new things, can make sense of ambiguity, conduct thoughtful research, ask strong questions, incorporate feedback carefully, and keep improving their work while effectively applying established processes, principles, and guidance without needing a lot of oversight or a step-by-step blueprint to follow. They enjoy doing research about human behavior, industries, and skills, and can quickly learn about unfamiliar industries, roles, audiences, situations, and performance challenges in order to design credible and relevant simulations. They are energized by the challenge of building something nuanced and high quality, not simply by the appeal of working in an innovative space. Because we work as a remote, distributed team in a dynamic startup environment and culture, we need people who can operate independently, take ownership of their work, adapt as our tools, processes, and approaches evolve, and stay committed to the level of quality and realism that differentiates Mursion simulations. Just as importantly, successful Content Designers are strong collaborators who actively engage with teammates, share ideas, seek input, contribute to collective problem-solving, and help strengthen the quality of our work as a team.
Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Content Designer to design and develop immersive simulations that create meaningful opportunities for learners to practice and demonstrate essential skills. In this role, you will contribute to the full simulation design process, from understanding the learning goals, audience, and real-world context to developing simulation materials that support realistic, flexible, and high-impact experiences for participants and customers. You will work closely with other members of the simulation design team and cross-functional partners to ensure each simulation is grounded in sound learning design, aligned to customer needs, challenges, and goals, and built to meet Mursion's standards for quality, authenticity, and impact.
This is a fully remote, full-time, salaried position reporting to the Senior Research Scientist.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop realistic simulation concepts, storylines, characters, interaction dynamics, and scenario structures that reflect real-world workplace contexts and create meaningful opportunities for skills practice.
  • Research and synthesize relevant information about the target audience, industry, role, context, interpersonal dynamics, skills, and common performance challenges to ensure simulations are authentic, credible, and valuable.
  • Author participant-, client-, and internal-facing simulation materials that prepare learners, clearly communicate the purpose and value of simulations, and support accurate and consistent simulation delivery.
  • Draft scoring criteria and assessment guidance that support valid evaluation of participant performance, actionable feedback, and meaningful customer insights.
  • Lead design consultations with clients and subject matter experts to gather context, define simulation specifications, validate authenticity, and refine simulations throughout the development process.
  • Work iteratively with AI tools to generate an authentic and effective production of the simulation design. You are both the designer and the producer.
  • Train and support Simulation Specialists and/or Coaches in understanding the simulation design, character dynamics, scenario intent, and delivery expectations for Live simulations.
  • Use feedback, performance data, testing observations, and stakeholder input to maintain, update, and improve simulations.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in a role that required designing, developing, researching, or writing complex human-centered content, experiences, or scenarios. Relevant backgrounds may include learning experience design, behavioral skills development, content strategist, conversational designer, applied research, facilitation, simulation design, assessment design, screenwriting, character-driven narrative design, scripted improv, or related fields.
  • Strong writing, editing, and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate complex context into clear, realistic, purposeful simulation materials for different audiences. Relevant writing backgrounds may include content design, instructional or learning experience design, journalism, screenwriting, creative writing, narrative design, communications, technical writing, or related fields.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to closely review requirements, feedback, simulation materials, and participant/client-facing content for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and complexity, including the ability to ask thoughtful questions, identify what needs to be clarified, and move work forward without needing a step-by-step blueprint.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and executive presence, with the ability to build trust, engage productively with teammates and cross-functional partners, lead client and subject matter expert conversations, ask thoughtful questions, and represent Mursion's simulation design approach with credibility and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects or workstreams in a remote, distributed, fast-moving startup environment.
  • Technical curiosity and hands-on experience using AI tools to support research, drafting, analysis, or creative development, with demonstrated experience in learning new tools and approaches
  • Preferred but not required: background or coursework in psychology, behavioral science, anthropology, communication, organizational behavior, learning sciences, assessment, research methods, creative writing, theater/improv, or related fields.

We understand that not everyone will demonstrate proficiency in all of the areas listed under the responsibilities and qualifications. At Mursion, we strive to raise the bar! We encourage women and historically marginalized communities to apply if you feel your skills and life experiences are transferable to some of the qualifications in the job description.
