What Does a Remote Full Stack Developer Do?

As a remote full stack developer, you work from home to create back-end and front-end code for software, websites, and other technology applications. Your responsibilities include developing website architecture, helping to create a website application, developing and designing APIs, and ensuring that applications have the right level of responsiveness. Common duties associated with this job include working on a database or server to ensure functionality, creating web design features by working with graphic designers, helping to transform a concept into a finished product, and staying updated with the latest programming languages and web applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Full Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Full Stack Developer, you need strong proficiency in both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), web frameworks, and a solid understanding of database management. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), cloud platforms, and CI/CD pipelines is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Azure certifications. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills are essential for collaborating across distributed teams and managing independent workloads. These competencies enable developers to build robust, scalable applications efficiently while maintaining productivity and effective teamwork in a remote environment.

How do Remote Full Stack Developers typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote Full Stack Developers often work with colleagues located around the globe, making strong communication skills and adaptability essential. Teams usually rely on collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub to track progress, discuss features, and conduct code reviews asynchronously. Regular virtual meetings are scheduled to accommodate time zone differences, and clear documentation helps ensure everyone stays aligned. Successful developers in this environment are proactive about providing updates and clarifying requirements to keep projects on track.

What is a Remote Full Stack Developer?

A Remote Full Stack Developer is a software professional who works from a location outside of a traditional office, building and maintaining both the front-end (client-side) and back-end (server-side) components of web applications. They are skilled in a variety of programming languages and frameworks, enabling them to handle the full technology stack required for web development. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams using digital tools, manage code repositories, and often participate in virtual meetings to ensure project goals are met efficiently.

Job description

RainFocus, one of the most innovative software companies in the heart of Utah's Silicon Slopes, is in search of an exceptional Full Stack Developer.
About RainFocus
RainFocus cares about its employees, customers, and the world in which we live. Our rapidly-growing team serves Fortune 500 companies like Adobe, Cisco, IBM, Oracle, VMware, and others to prepare and execute in-person, virtual, and hybrid events, across the world. Those events are delivered through our industry-disrupting software platform, with groundbreaking business intelligence, to elevate the attendee experience, streamline event operations, and accelerate marketing results. We are well-funded, growing fast, and building a company that is changing the market - it will be challenging, fun and exciting.
About the Role
RainFocus is looking for a seasoned Full Stack Developer to help us build the next generation of tools that power some of the largest events in the world. You'll be joining a fast-moving, cross-functional team focused on delivering smarter, AI-powered experiences for our internal teams and event organizers.
As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will architect and develop enterprise-grade web applications using Java and React. You'll also take an active role in leading by example, and helping shape the future of our technical direction.
We need collaborative, energetic team members who are capable of becoming experts in RainFocus products, industry best practices and who work well within small, focused teams.
This role sits at the heart of some of our most ambitious work: blending AI with intuitive product design to streamline complex configuration tasks and enable more personalized experiences. You'll work closely across-functions to turn AI ideas into working solutions.
We're looking for someone who's collaborative, curious, and ready to build things that don't exist yet.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain our core product set with a focus on usability, security, and scalability
  • >
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of our AI agent platform, including LLM integrations and supporting infrastructure
  • >
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and UX to build thoughtful, client-facing experiences
  • >
  • Build and iterate on advanced prototypes that integrate LLMs, APIs, and retrieval pipelines
  • >
  • Implement full-stack features-from database schema and backend services to frontend components and real-time user interactions
  • >

Qualifications:
  • Have a strong technical background, including 5+ years of experience working on full stack code bases and doing anything it takes to solve problems and delight users.
  • >
  • Experience with Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or other AI-Assisted Engineering tools used to develop software products
  • >
  • Experience working with LLMs, AI agents, or RAG architectures
  • >
  • Experience architecting complex solutions, then projecting your vision and thought process to other developers
  • >
  • Experience peer reviewing code while providing feedback and improvements
  • >
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • >
  • Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies
  • >
  • Experience in Object-Oriented design and programming.
  • >
  • Experience in RDBMS (MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, etc.) including database design and advanced SQL
  • >
  • Experience with front-end development using a modern JavaScript framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • >
  • Strong interest in development platforms, Data Engineering, MLOps, AI, CI/CD, infrastructure or making products for technical teams
  • >
  • Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while balancing short term and long term needs
  • >
  • Strong expertise with backend systems in service-oriented architectures
  • >

Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with LangChain or other AI Agentic frameworks
  • >
  • Experience driving zero-to-one development of key technical capabilities
  • >
  • Strong problem-solver who can untangle complex systems, find the root cause, and fix issues without duct tape solutions.
  • >
  • Creative thinker who spots opportunities for smarter solutions and isn't afraid to pitch bold ideas that actually move the needle.
  • >
  • Comfort working with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS)
  • >
  • Experience with Struts2 MVC, Spring Framework
  • >
  • Experience integrating with 3rd party systems via APIs
  • >
  • Prior experience as a team lead

Personal Characteristics:
The best candidates for this position will thrive at RainFocus not just because of their technical skills, but because of how they show up. They're energized by solving hard problems, working with smart teammates, and figuring things out without a step-by-step manual.
They'll need to be comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment where priorities shift and curiosity is rewarded.
We're looking for someone who is:
  • A strong communicator who keeps others in the loop and asks great questions
  • >
  • Self-motivated, with a bias toward action and ownership
A collaborative team player who helps others level up
  • >
  • Naturally curious-driven to understand how things work and how to make them better
  • >
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and unafraid to make decisions when things are messy
  • >
  • Open to feedback, quick to learn, and always improving
  • >

Why work at RainFocus?
At RainFocus we delight millions of attendees at large-scale events by delivering better insights, experiences, and marketing.
As a member of the RainFocus team, you will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the impact of our platform at events around the world. Additionally, RainFocus offers competitive salaries, competitive benefits, 401k and generous PTO.
What are you waiting for? Apply today! We need more talented, hard-working, fun-loving team members just like yourself!
