They typically travel (virtually or occasionally onsite) to work closely with clients, understand their needs, and ensure the successful deployment and integration of products. Their role often includes troubleshooting, coding, and providing support tailored to each client’s requirements. This position requires strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt solutions for diverse customer environments.

Collaboration often happens through virtual meetings, shared documentation, and project management tools. You'll be expected to translate client requirements into actionable engineering tasks, communicate technical constraints or possibilities, and coordinate deployments or troubleshooting efforts. Successful engineers in this role are proactive communicators and can bridge the gap between user needs and technical solutions, even when working across time zones.

Job description

Location: New York, NY

Work model: In-person

Industry: AI / Recruiting Infrastructure

Compensation: $150K-$220K base plus early-stage equity

About the Company

TalentPluto is an early-stage company building the infrastructure that connects great operators to the startups that need them. Our platform gives professionals an AI agent that learns their real career story and controls how they are discovered by people, companies, and other AI agents, and gives hiring teams a matched, evidence-ranked pipeline instead of a resume pile.

We work with fast-moving venture-backed startups across go-to-market and engineering. The team is small and technical, we ship daily, and the product surface spans a candidate agent, voice and text onboarding, matching models, and deep integrations with the applicant tracking systems our clients already run.

The Opportunity

We are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to sit between our product and the companies using it. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role for someone who would rather solve a customer's problem in their environment than file a ticket about it.

You will own integrations, pilots, and technical onboarding for new clients, and you will be the person who makes the first weeks work. Because you will see exactly where the product breaks in the real world, your input will shape what engineering builds next.

Responsibilities
  • Own technical onboarding for new clients, from first integration through a working pipeline
  • Build and maintain integrations with client applicant tracking systems and hiring workflows
  • Debug data, webhook, and matching issues end to end, across our stack and the client's
  • Translate what clients actually need into concrete product and engineering requirements
  • Partner with go-to-market on technical conversations during evaluation and rollout
  • Build internal tooling that removes recurring manual work from the deployment process
Requirements
  • 3+ years in software engineering, solutions engineering, forward deployed engineering, or technical consulting
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and comfort reading and writing production code, not just scripts
  • Experience debugging integrations, webhooks, and data pipelines across systems you do not control
  • Ability to work directly with customers and hold a credible technical conversation with senior engineers
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and little structure at an early-stage company
  • Judgment about when to fix something for one customer and when to fix it in the product
Nice to Have
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems such as Workable, Ashby, or Greenhouse
  • TypeScript, Next.js, and Postgres experience
  • Prior work at a seed or Series A company, especially as an early technical hire
  • Exposure to LLM-backed products and their failure modes in production
