Job description

Northeast Automatic Sprinkler Company is a well-established fire protection contractor specializing in the design, installation, service, inspection, and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems. For over 60 years, we've partnered with leading general contractors and property managers across the Boston area, building a reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation. We are currently seeking an Experienced Fire Protection Sprinkler Designer to join our team. This position is hybrid and will require the designer to be in the office at least 2 or 3 days/week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design fire protection systems for new construction and renovation projects, on time and within budget from concept to completion
  • Produce drawings using AutoCAD, HydraCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination tools
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and develop accurate stock and fabrication lists
  • Conduct field surveys to determine system requirements
  • Prepare and submit drawings for permitting and approvals
  • Attend project meetings and coordinate with architects, contractors, and project teams while representing the company professionally
  • Interpret and apply NFPA codes and relevant standards to ensure compliance across all designs
  • Communicate effectively with field personnel, internal teams, and customers in a timely manner
  • Stay current with evolving codes, standards, and industry practices
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budget expectations
  • Attend related training classes, courses, and seminars as requested by the department manager

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of fire protection sprinkler design experience
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, HydraCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination
  • Solid knowledge of NFPA 13 and 20
  • Ability to independently read and interpret construction documents (drawings, specs, contracts)
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to perform field work (walking sites, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, crouching, and navigating obstacles)
  • Ability to meet client-specific requirements, including drug testing where applicable
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
