A Remote Fintech Software Engineer is a software developer who works from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home, and specializes in building, maintaining, or enhancing financial technology (fintech) applications. These professionals work on products such as online banking platforms, payment systems, investment tools, and blockchain solutions. Their role typically involves coding, testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create secure, scalable, and user-friendly financial software. Working remotely allows them to collaborate with global teams and clients using digital communication and project management tools.

How do remote fintech software engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams given the distributed work environment?

Remote Fintech Software Engineers frequently work with product managers, UX/UI designers, and QA specialists through virtual collaboration platforms like Slack, Jira, and Zoom. Effective communication and clear documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project goals, compliance requirements, and tight delivery timelines. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and asynchronous updates help maintain productivity and foster team cohesion, despite working across different time zones. Adapting to this remote collaboration style is important for delivering secure, scalable fintech solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote fintech software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Fintech Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Python, Java, or C#), a solid understanding of financial systems, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), experience with APIs, and knowledge of security protocols or certifications like AWS Certified Developer or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly valued. Exceptional problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective virtual communication are critical soft skills for remote collaboration and complex project execution. These abilities ensure you can build secure, scalable financial solutions and work productively across distributed teams in a highly regulated industry.

Job description

Location: Remote

How You'll Make an Impact:

As a Senior Frontend Engineer on the squad, you'll build and evolve the guest-facing booking experience in a modern React and TypeScript codebase, partnering with backend, product, and design to ship features that are fast, polished, and built to convert. You'll work across the full booking journey, from checkout to the customization tools properties use to make the experience their own, applying modern e-commerce best practices and leaning on analytics and experimentation to guide what we build. There's also plenty of room to shape an increasingly AI-ready experience and to help create entirely new offerings that properties can sell directly through the booking engine.
Our Booking Engine Team:

This role is part of the Booking Engine Squad, the team behind the guest-facing reservation experience that powers direct bookings for tens of thousands of Cloudbeds properties worldwide. Direct bookings are one of the most valuable channels we can win for a property, and we're constantly building new and innovative ways to help them capture that demand, from richer customization to entirely new booking experiences. It sits on the revenue-critical path, so speed, reliability, and getting the details right directly shape whether a guest completes a booking. It's one of our highest-leverage products, and if you want to own real software used around the world, this is a great team to build on.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Design, build, and evolve the guest-facing booking experience in React and TypeScript
  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend to plan, build, and ship features
  • Improve performance and conversion through profiling and experimentation
  • Lead discussions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including the frontend architecture group
  • Mentor teammates through pair programming and code reviews
  • Write clean, well-documented, thoroughly tested code, and champion accessibility across the team
  •

What Sets You Up for Success:

  • 5+ years of web application development experience
  • Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, TypeScript, and JavaScript frameworks (React preferred)
  • Strong command of HTML and CSS
  • Experience with API-driven design and development
  • Good product sense and empathy for our customers
  • Solid Git fundamentals, including workflows and actions
  • Strong knowledge of and a passion for software best practices, design patterns, and testing, including test automation across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration, with a real sense of ownership and good time management
  • Passionate about agile practices and continuous improvement
  • Business-level English fluency, verbal and written
  • Experience identifying and improving application performance
  •

Bonus Skills to Stand Out:

  • Experience with public-facing products and analytics tools like GA4
  • Experience building micro-frontends or web components
  • Familiarity with deploying and running web applications in the cloud (AWS a plus)
  • Experience working with AI coding tools like Claude Code
  • Experience working with a remote-first, globally distributed team
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
  • Travel industry experience (a plus, but definitely not required!)
  •

Depending on your skills and experience, you can expect your annual compensation to be between $140,000 and $160,000 USD. Please note that we maintain high flexibility, and packages above this range will be considered. (The salary is only for US-based candidates).
