Remote Fintech Software Engineer information

What is a remote fintech software engineer?

A Remote Fintech Software Engineer is a software developer who works from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home, and specializes in building, maintaining, or enhancing financial technology (fintech) applications. These professionals work on products such as online banking platforms, payment systems, investment tools, and blockchain solutions. Their role typically involves coding, testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create secure, scalable, and user-friendly financial software. Working remotely allows them to collaborate with global teams and clients using digital communication and project management tools.

How do remote fintech software engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams given the distributed work environment?

Remote Fintech Software Engineers frequently work with product managers, UX/UI designers, and QA specialists through virtual collaboration platforms like Slack, Jira, and Zoom. Effective communication and clear documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project goals, compliance requirements, and tight delivery timelines. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and asynchronous updates help maintain productivity and foster team cohesion, despite working across different time zones. Adapting to this remote collaboration style is important for delivering secure, scalable fintech solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote fintech software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Fintech Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Python, Java, or C#), a solid understanding of financial systems, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), experience with APIs, and knowledge of security protocols or certifications like AWS Certified Developer or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly valued. Exceptional problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective virtual communication are critical soft skills for remote collaboration and complex project execution. These abilities ensure you can build secure, scalable financial solutions and work productively across distributed teams in a highly regulated industry.

Job description

Sudozi, a new financial optimization platform for businesses, is looking to hire amazing software engineers as part of its early team. The company currently has two engineering leads and has raised a seed round from a top tier SF VC and notable angel investors (including first engineers from Uber and Stripe). We have paid active corporate users and several users on beta. This is an extremely unique opportunity to be part of the early team and help set the technical strategy and culture at the company.
Ideal Candidate
  • 4+ years of software engineering in a VC backed startup environment or fast paced technology company with some mentorship responsibilities mixed in.
  • Experience building backend systems for web and/or mobile applications.
  • Pluses: Experience with fintech, data engineering, accounting systems, machine learning and/or 2-sided marketplaces.
  • Experience scaling products and systems in high growth environments - building features and automating testing and deployment.
  • Enjoys working with team members across the company (product, design, business, support, etc) to build products that customers love.
  • Located and able to work in SF Bay Area (with remote opportunities)

Job Responsibilities
Overall:
  • Help scope and implement technical projects with enormous impact on the future of the company.
  • Be a decider with logical reasoning on technology and architecture choices.
  • Directly contribute to product decisions and write code.
  • Recruit, teach and mentor future hires.
  • Have fun.

Specific Responsibilities Months 1-3:
  • Review current code and product development.
  • Familiarize yourself with financial software landscape and build customer empathy.
  • Write and deploy code for existing features.
  • Help with recruiting for additional team members.

Months 3-6:
  • Be a leader in part of the tech stack.
  • Contribute to product roadmap and key tradeoff decisions.
  • Gain business experience and participate in conversations with customers.
