What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Factory Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Factory Worker, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a basic understanding of manufacturing processes, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with remote monitoring systems, digital communication tools, and inventory management software is typically required. Reliability, effective communication, and the ability to work independently are essential soft skills for success in this remote environment. These skills and qualities ensure productivity, accuracy, and smooth collaboration despite the physical distance from the factory floor.

What is the difference between Remote Factory Worker vs On-site Factory Worker?

AspectRemote Factory WorkerOn-site Factory Worker

Work FlexibilityHigher flexibility, often with scheduled remote tasksFixed shifts on the factory floor

The main difference between Remote Factory Worker and On-site Factory Worker lies in the work environment and task location. Remote Factory Workers perform certain duties remotely, leveraging digital tools, while On-site Factory Workers are physically present at the production site. Both roles may require similar certifications, but the remote role offers more flexibility and is increasingly common in modern manufacturing support functions.

What is a remote factory worker?

A remote factory worker is someone who operates, monitors, or controls factory machinery and production processes from a location outside the physical factory, often using digital tools and remote access technology. This role can involve tasks such as overseeing automated equipment, quality control, data analysis, and troubleshooting technical issues, all performed via computer interfaces. Remote factory work is becoming more common with advancements in automation and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), allowing for increased flexibility and efficiency in manufacturing operations.

How do remote factory workers typically stay connected with on-site teams to ensure smooth production processes?

Remote factory workers often use specialized software platforms and communication tools to collaborate with on-site teams. This usually involves regular video meetings, real-time chat channels, and shared dashboards to monitor production metrics and address issues quickly. Building strong communication routines is key to overcoming the challenge of not being physically present on the factory floor, and most companies provide structured check-ins and clear protocols to keep everyone aligned. Successful remote factory workers are proactive in reaching out and documenting their work to promote transparency and teamwork.

Job description

Quick Info:

  • This is a remote role with about a 10% travel expectation. Candidates must live in the contiguous United States.

About the Company

Our client is a multi-site advanced manufacturing company operating in highly regulated, precision-driven industries. The business relies on accurate financial, operational, manufacturing, and customer data to support daily execution and long-term decision-making.

The company is continuing to invest in its business systems, reporting environment, ERP integrations, and custom applications. This role will support that effort by helping improve data quality, reporting, system reliability, and internal tools across the business.

The Opportunity

Our client is hiring a Business Systems Developer / Data Warehouse Analyst to support data warehouse, reporting, ERP integration, and custom application needs across the organization.

This is a hands-on role for someone who has strong SQL skills, experience working with business data, and the ability to support or develop technical solutions across databases, applications, and business systems. The right person does not need to be a senior architect or fully built Azure data warehouse engineer, but they should be technically curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable working close to the business.

This role will work with internal stakeholders and technology team members to improve reporting, support ERP-related data needs, help maintain and enhance internal applications, and contribute to cleaner, more reliable data flows.

The best fit is someone who has grown through business systems, data analysis, SQL development, reporting, or application support and is ready to keep expanding into data warehouse, ERP integration, and C#/.NET development work.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and enhance data warehouse, reporting, and business systems solutions.
  • Write, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries to support reporting, data validation, integrations, and business analysis.
  • Assist with ETL processes, data movement, and data quality improvements across business systems.
  • Support Azure-based data tools, including Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory, with the expectation that some skills may continue developing on the job.
  • Help support ERP data needs, integrations, and customizations across manufacturing, finance, and operations.
  • Build, maintain, or enhance internal applications, tools, or APIs using C#/.NET and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Partner with business users to understand needs, clarify requirements, and translate issues into practical technical solutions.
  • Validate, test, document, and support the work you deliver.
  • Help ensure financial and operational data is accurate, secure, reliable, and auditable.
  • Work within structured development, change management, release, and testing practices.
  • Support reporting and analytics needs, including Power BI or similar tools where applicable.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Look for opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual work, and make systems easier for users to rely on.
  • Use AI-powered tools thoughtfully to improve development efficiency, documentation, testing, and code quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in SQL development, data analysis, reporting, business systems development, application development, or a related technical role.
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of relational databases.
  • Experience working with business data, reporting needs, data validation, or data quality issues.
  • Exposure to ETL concepts, data warehouse environments, or data integration work.
  • Experience with Microsoft technologies such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Active Directory, Visual Studio, or related tools.
  • Experience with C#/.NET, Web API, or application development is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, validate, document, and support your own work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through unclear or evolving business needs.
  • Clear communication skills and a service-oriented approach when working with business users.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a small technology team.

Nice to Have

  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • Experience supporting ERP systems or ERP-related data.
  • Epicor, SyteLine, or similar ERP experience.
  • Power BI or similar reporting and analytics experience.
  • Azure Data Factory or Azure data warehouse experience.
  • CI/CD, GitHub, or structured release management exposure.
  • Experience supporting financial, operational, inventory, production, or manufacturing data.
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, medical device, or precision manufacturing.

Compensation

Base salary for this role is $75,000 - $95,000 plus a 10% bonus and up to a 5% 401k match plus benefits.

Why This Role Matters

This role helps strengthen the data and systems foundation behind the business.

In a multi-site manufacturing environment, small gaps in data quality, reporting, integrations, or internal applications can create real friction for finance, operations, manufacturing, and leadership. This person will help improve the reliability of that environment by supporting better SQL, cleaner data flows, stronger reporting, and more useful internal tools.

The work will touch systems and data that support financial reporting, manufacturing operations, ERP workflows, and business visibility.
