POSITION OVERVIEW:

Maze of Life is seeking a qualified Domestic Violence Counselor or Facilitator to support our Massachusetts Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program (IPAEP).

This role focuses on facilitating structured group sessions for individuals ordered or referred to a Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH)-aligned Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program. The position is group-centered and accountability-focused in accordance with the Massachusetts Guidelines and Standards for the Certification of Intimate Partner Abuse Education Programs. Individual sessions, when used, support assessment and accountability and do not replace the required group intervention model.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with individuals who have used intimate partner violence or coercive control (group facilitation experience strongly preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred Completion of (or ability and willingness to complete) a minimum of 24 hours of DPH approved Intimate Partner Abuse Education training
  • Observation of at least 6 IPAEP group sessions led by approved staff (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong understanding of power and control dynamics, coercive control, trauma-informed accountability practices, and the non-therapeutic, accountability-focused group model required under Massachusetts standards
  • Proven ability to facilitate groups effectively, manage group dynamics, confront minimization, justification, and entitlement, and maintain a clear accountability focus without victim-blaming or collusion
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and support court and probation reporting requirements
  • Familiarity with victim/partner contact procedures and coordinated community response preferred
  • Willingness to complete background checks and meet any applicable requirements Commitment to ongoing professional development consistent with DPH expectations Availability for scheduled group sessions in Massachusetts (evenings preferred)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience facilitating certified or state-recognized IPAEP, PAIP, or BIP groups Bilingual capacity \
  • Current professional license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate structured weekly group sessions consistent with the Massachusetts 40-week / 80-hour IPAEP model, reinforcing accountability, personal responsibility, and non violent alternatives
  • Maintain a safe, structured group environment that challenges abusive belief systems and behaviors while modeling respect and equality
  • Conduct or support intake and ongoing assessment processes as assigned Monitor attendance, participation, and behavioral progress; document accurately in accordance with organizational and DPH requirements
  • Support court and probation reporting needs by providing timely, factual information regarding attendance, compliance, and program status
  • Collaborate with program leadership, co-facilitators, and community partners while upholding confidentiality and mandated reporting obligations
  • Adhere strictly to the non-therapeutic, group-focused, accountability-based approach required under Massachusetts IPAEP standards
  • Participate in required training, supervision, and team meetings
  • Cross-train as needed to support operational flexibility within Maze of Life's Massachusetts programming
