What is a Remote FAANG job?

A Remote FAANG job is a position at one of the top tech companies—Facebook (Meta), Apple, Amazon, Netflix, or Google—where employees work from a location of their choice instead of a company office. These roles span various functions, including software engineering, product management, design, and data science. Remote FAANG jobs offer competitive salaries, strong benefits, and access to cutting-edge projects while allowing employees to maintain work-life balance. However, remote employees must navigate challenges like time zone differences, communication barriers, and maintaining visibility within the company. Many FAANG companies now support remote or hybrid work, depending on the specific role and team needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Faang position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) role, candidates need advanced technical expertise in their field (such as software engineering, data science, or product management), a relevant degree, and a strong track record of industry experience. Familiarity with cloud platforms, collaborative coding tools (like Git), and proficiency in languages and frameworks commonly used at FAANG companies (e.g., Python, Java, React) are highly valued; certifications in these areas are a plus. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help candidates excel in a remote, cross-functional team environment. These capabilities are critical because they ensure productivity, effective collaboration, and high-quality output in demanding, fast-paced, and distributed settings.

What are some common challenges faced when working remotely for a FAANG company, and how can I overcome them?

One common challenge is maintaining clear communication and alignment with globally distributed teams, especially when working across multiple time zones and cultural contexts. To overcome this, it's important to be proactive in scheduling meetings, documenting work thoroughly, and making use of collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms. Another challenge is staying focused and motivated without the structure of a traditional office, which can be mitigated by setting regular work hours, creating a dedicated workspace, and engaging in frequent check-ins with your team. Embracing these practices helps ensure you remain connected and productive in a high-performance remote environment.

Job description

This is a remote position but you must reside in Saint Louis, MO and be available for quarterly travel to New York.

Company overview

We're startup junkies, former founders, and x-FAANG engineers, and we're building an AI-notetaker + task management system for financial advisors. Matt was going to be a philosophy professor but got into tech instead. He's built mobile apps and web apps, worked on a data science team, and founded a VC-backed startup. Was hired as the 5th engineer at Avantos. Favorite movie: The Prestige. (Generally likes anything Christopher Nolan does.)

Tristan

Tristan most recently worked a crypto startup. Before that, Amazon. x-Rust-user-group organizer. Outside of work, he spends time enjoying the great outdoors and traveling to different places. Favorite movie: Cars 3. (This might be a joke. We're not sure.)
